So the Delta 3V it's just short of one year use

I didn't record how much use I had on the blades it replaced. I had been sharpening them twice a season because they would get pretty dull but this was probably more than 6 months because I knew I had some new blades in the works. So they might have been one year but probably a little less.

Point being, I'm pretty sure they did not have as many hours on them as the 3V did. Probably quite a bit less. But I don't really know. I do know they have the same cutting characteristics as the side of a number two pencil though.

Going to need on of those in 21" to fit a Snapper walk behind. It'll be twice the cost of the mower! 🤣 😢

Which Friday sale will these be available? 🤣

I peaked at them after they had been running for a month or so and they had accumulated some wear. It doesn't seem like they have dulled a whole lot beyond what I saw after having used them for a few weeks. Like, obviously they have dulled more but it appears to me that the rate of wear may have slowed down some after the initial edge loss.

I'm mowing quite a few acres of grass and I do scalp dirt and hit rocks and I do mow along a quarter of a mile of my gravel road, mowing medium sized gravel the whole time.

I think it's possible that typical homeowner use, if you had the correct metallurgy, it's possible the lawn mower blade might actually last the useful life of the lawn mower for some people

You win the "perks of being a knifemaker" thread in GKD:

Do they still clean cut the grass? That’ll be awesome. Just have to overcome the initial investment.

It's good for applications where you need a combination of strength, toughness, and wear resistance with decent corrosion resistance. It wouldn't make sense to use it on something like leaf springs.

Poor heat tolerance, so it would not work well on things like valves and valve seats.

It might be a good material for the CP4 fuel pump swash plate?

Suspension component joints. Parts in the steering column. Moving parts in the doors and latches. Anything that you want to never break or wear out or rust too bad.
