Random Thought Thread

Off grid for a week, catching up with this thread will take a bit, but I have a question I figure I might as well ask here where the people who would know the answer hang out... so before I forget:

Any recommendations for a dangler setup to work with mashed cat kydex FK3 sheath? (other than 'it's not that hard to make one')

Check these out. They should make one that will work with your MC sheath, just be sure to measure it to order the right one. 👍

I read yesterday that if you invested $1k in stock in "Beyond Meat" at the beginning of 2021, your investment would have seen a 99% loss over the last 5 years, and would be worth $9 today.

It's the little things that give me joy.

We will be taking our grandkids to California and into Disneyland. Anybody know what the knife laws are and rules about carrying into Disneyland?
Disneyland doesn't allow you to carry any kind of knife at all.

In Cali, last I read, it's illegal to carry a knife concealed (unless it'sa folding knife without a locking blade), can't carry a blade over 2 inches, and it can't be a fixed blade (due to broad definitions of dirk and dagger).

Different areas in California have additional restrictions as well.

Don't take my word on any of this. Research it.....a lot.

It's strange the way your perspective changes as you get older; I expected it to change a lot, but the way it has changed is what's surprising.

TLDR: getting older has increased my drive to seek comfort and enjoyment however I can = portable bidets are awesome
Getting older has been wreaking havoc on my digestive tract and other things are just wearing out with age. Without getting too graphic, heartburn, mudbutt, etc.

I'm aware part of this is probably my diet and a couple other things.

Anyway, I got a portable bidet for when I'm in the office.....it's basically a water bottle with a long curved neck; you squeeze the bottle to push water through a miniature sprayer nozzle. Works great. Comes with a small discreet water proof bag.

I'm by no means a clean freak and I don't have a phobia of anything really. I just think that is you got crap on your hairy elbow, most of you wouldn't just wipe it off with a paper towel. Given a choice I'd rather not sit in my own stink.p

As I get older, I'm noticing that I'm increasingly interested in being comfortable and adding enjoyment to my days however I can. Hence, portable bidet.

I went a couple of years ago and left my pocket knife in the car. There were metal detectors and bags needed a cursory search, but it wasn't a rigorous search and I probably could have gotten a folder through just fine. It's up to you whether to take the risk of having to dump a knife in a bin.

I have also visited LA and the surrounding areas somewhat frequently in the last years. Generally, fixed blades are prohibited unless they're carried openly (ie, on your belt and easily visible), folders are fine (locking or otherwise) but there may be a 3" blade limit depending on which municipality you're in, and autos are prohibited unless they have a blade 2" or less. There is no preemption, so certain local ordinances may be more strict. For example, LA may permit 4" folders but Santa Monica only permits 3" max (these aren't real, just an example).

When I go I usually carry a traditional folder (locking or slipjoint) and a locking folder like a Spyderco Endura. No problems so far.

You can look up better details here:

Lock it up in the vehicle DJ. You won't have to deal with the aggravation. I don't think you can take pepper spray either.

On the other hand, if you were to "break" your arm, a hard cast would have to be allowed, I imagine. ☺️
You can't take pepper spray?!? That's some freaking nonsense.

What's next; you have to wear pillows over your hands because knuckles are too dangerous?

The other thing I'll add is do not underestimate the level security/surveillance in place at Disneyland. It is far more extensive than most imagine.

At Disney World there is a strict no weapons or tools rule. Density scanners are in use at the entrance, so super secret squirrel stuff is a no go. I would imagine Disneyland is no different. Possibly even higher security there considering where it is.

Yup. In addition to scanners, you are on camera everywhere on the premises. Their undercover security personnel are ubiquitous, and fairly well trained. That's in addition to those behind the scenes and on 'stand by.'

Yes, This. Very much so. I was there in my teens (decades ago!) with a friend who, unbeknownst to me, smuggled in some smoking material considered illegal in Kali (and pretty much everywhere else, too) at the time. He insisted on going to Tom Sawyer's Island, so we were wandering around there. Found himself a little cave, pretty well hidden, pulled out his material and sparked it up. I don't think he'd finished inhaling his first dose when 6 or 8 security personnel showed up, some dressed as "cast members," some in plain clothes. Of course, we're on an "island" with only the rafts to come and go, but he thought it would be a good idea to run. Not sure where he was ultimately going to run to, but I don't think he'd thought that far ahead. Needless to say, they had him wrapped up in no time, commandeered a raft to take him to security headquarters, and ultimately threw him out and banned him from returning. I was far enough away at the time they didn't associate us, and I watched as they hauled him away, quietly laughing to the point of tears.

So to repeat what others noted, SECURITY IS EVERYWHERE at disneyland.
