I went a couple of years ago and left my pocket knife in the car. There were metal detectors and bags needed a cursory search, but it wasn't a rigorous search and I probably could have gotten a folder through just fine. It's up to you whether to take the risk of having to dump a knife in a bin.
I have also visited LA and the surrounding areas somewhat frequently in the last years. Generally, fixed blades are prohibited unless they're carried openly (ie, on your belt and easily visible), folders are fine (locking or otherwise) but there may be a 3" blade limit depending on which municipality you're in, and autos are prohibited unless they have a blade 2" or less. There is no preemption, so certain local ordinances may be more strict. For example, LA may permit 4" folders but Santa Monica only permits 3" max (these aren't real, just an example).
When I go I usually carry a traditional folder (locking or slipjoint) and a locking folder like a Spyderco Endura. No problems so far.
Don't know about Disneyland, like others said, leave stuff in the car ...
CA law allows you to carry any fixed blade open, and pretty much any manual folder concealed, with some exceptions: no Autos beyond 2", no Balisongs, no gravity knives, etc. But - say - a 5" Cold Steel folder is fine.
There are folder blade length limitations in government buildings (4"?) and on school property (2").
Counties can be more restrictive as oldmanwilly
says. Also, some of them have anti-loitering knife laws, so when asked, your knife is a tool.
Overall, CA is quite generous for knives, much more so than for guns. I've carried also larger fixed blade knives visibly everywhere (and seen other riders do so, too), and nobody ever asked. I suspect, the knife laws play mostly a role when you get arrested for different reasons ...
Have fun. I'm glad I don't have to go in your place
I was in Disneyworld last year and they no longer have metal detectors. They are using the object detector, so I wouldn't bring in anything that could be considered a weapon. Even Disney Springs has those detectors in the garage entrance to the shopping area, so you can't bring in anything there either. My mom had an umbrella in her bag and she had to take it out and walk with the umbrella above her head through the detector again.
Don't be like me and have to walk all the way back to the car to drop off things.
It's strange the way your perspective changes as you get older; I expected it to change a lot, but the way it has changed is what's surprising.
TLDR: getting older has increased my drive to seek comfort and enjoyment however I can = portable bidets are awesome
Getting older has been wreaking havoc on my digestive tract and other things are just wearing out with age. Without getting too graphic, heartburn, mudbutt, etc.
I'm aware part of this is probably my diet and a couple other things.
Anyway, I got a portable bidet for when I'm in the office.....it's basically a water bottle with a long curved neck; you squeeze the bottle to push water through a miniature sprayer nozzle. Works great. Comes with a small discreet water proof bag.
I'm by no means a clean freak and I don't have a phobia of anything really. I just think that is you got crap on your hairy elbow, most of you wouldn't just wipe it off with a paper towel. Given a choice I'd rather not sit in my own stink.p
As I get older, I'm noticing that I'm increasingly interested in being comfortable and adding enjoyment to my days however I can. Hence, portable bidet.
On a serious note on this topic, once you get used to using a bidet at home, not having one just doesn’t feel right.
This is a long post, and for folks who aren’t interested in portable bidets, I’d recommend just skipping the whole post.
That said, the squeeze bottles just don’t cut it, to me. Despite the fact that I not only lift weights regularly, but do specific grip/forearm targeted exercises weekly, I simply can’t squeeze the bottle hard enough to get anywhere even close to the ‘pressure wash’ of the installed bidets, so I went on a search for portable ones, and wound up trying at least half a dozen rechargeable ones (just eating the cost, because returning a used/tested portable bidet is just disgusting).
Many of them are pathetically weak, and no better than the squeeze bottles (and a TP test shows that they don’t get things clean), but 3 rechargeable ones (all available on Amazon) that actually come close to the pressure of the installed bidets are
- Bidet Buddy Purejet
This one would be my recommendation, because they designed it so the actual unit nests inside the bottle it comes with, and the bottle is expandable, if you prefer more water volume.
- Vitcoco Portable Bidet.
This one also nests inside the included bottle, but the unit itself is larger, so the whole thing is bigger, but if you need the length of the wand, to reach, then this may be the better option
- Insolife
This one is iffy. Bought two of the older 2nd gen ones. They come with different nozzles you can choose, and the single jet was the closest to the pressure of an installed bidet. Used them regularly while traveling and they held up for 2-3 years of regular use before the battery would no longer hold a charge.
Went to get a new one, and the newest 3rd gen was way weaker. Made a complaint, and the manufacturer sent me a new unit. The new unit still wasn’t as strong as the old ones, and failed within just a few uses.
Made another complaint to the company, and they actually took the time to reply and apologize, stating that they’d changed sources for the pump (and had switched from including the single jet option, to a 3-jet wand), and refunded my purchase.
3 months later, they contacted me again, and said they’d found a new source for their pumps, and opted to include the single jet option again, due to my complaint (it’s just a small piece of plastic), and were sending me one of their new revisions for free.
The new one is great. Really good pressure (strongest out of all of them). Holding up well, except I don’t know if they changed the design across the board for all of them, or just the one they sent me, because the description in the listing makes no mention of the single jet option (entirely possible that they just didn’t bother to revise the listing). Haven’t tried ordering another one, to see if they’re all as good as the one they sent me.
......Needless to say, they had him wrapped up in no time, commandeered a raft to take him to security headquarters, and ultimately threw him out and banned him from returning.
