Random Thought Thread

Thx.
It was JParanee, who got me interested in sash carry. He has posted some excellent pics and vids on knives using sash carry
Ill post the aforementioned pics here for illustration. Sheath is my first sash carry sheath. Its just a hurriedly made experimental one but it grew on me and I still use it.

Coffin handle Bowie and sash carry with static line.

Draw the knife one handed - sheath drops free.

An excellent mode of carry IMO.

The bigger sling studs are excellent and work well. I like using them for leather and kydex sheaths better than a smaller one. They seem to work better.

That’s fine if you fellas like the big studs better. But the only purpose of the stud is to keep the knife from sliding down your pants. So it doesn’t matter how big and round they are, they just have to to stick out far enough so the knife doesn’t slide down your pants. I have sheath from Paul Long, Rick Lowe, Kenny Rowe, and Dan Hunter that use the smaller diameter stud, and these hombres would not put shit that don’t work on they’re sheath. I have never had one slide down my pants.;)

Is that an HDFK in your pants or are you happy to see me?

In the recent past, I have let go of more knives than I have acquired. Primarily I only own, or rather used to own 3 brands:

Carothers in fixed, Shiro and Spydie in folding. All the Shiros have gone to greener pastures for now and maybe for good, as I'll be waiting for Nathan's debut in the folder market; I like Spydies but there's nothing new on their horizon which excites me (wanted a Paysan which turned out to be a mini disaster!).

Anyway, random thoughts:

Bring out more CPKs because I'm getting antsy :D

I haven't found a folder I love since the Stretch. I just didn't like the FRN handle.

I literally just got a ZDP stretch in G10 if you want it. I just got it because it was a good deal, I don't really want it.
Take him up on it Grog!! The stretch is one of spyderco’s greatest platforms ever IMO, and the ZDP variant will take a crazy keen edge. You’re a good dude fonedork!

I hear ya! I was almost tempted into buying an Infi Ratmandu last night. The thing is, I purged all my Busse’s in favour of CPK. Craziness!

I’ve gone with CPK for fixed blades and Chris Reeve, Spyderco and a SAK for the folders.

Just ramblin’

Lol - I was close to trying the Ratmandu out last night as well but refrained. I’m waiting for more CPK’s.

My folders are currently Shiro’s and a few Spyderco’s.

I have a mod'ed GB1 which I luv... The blade shapes are similar but mine is in the mighty M4 with CF handle scales :p
M4 is aight, but gets chippy, in my experience, if you take it down to very acute angles. ZDP slices like a dream taken down to even 12dps, and as a bonus, polishes up crazy nice. If you like spyderco’s M4, you might want to check out their REX45 :)
ETA: ZDP gets very chippy too at acute angles, if you’re cutting any dense/hard media, to be fair.. I’m biased I guess, cuz I have a special place in my heart for the OG stretch in zdp. ALL those steels.. REX, M4, ZDP, etc. are all amazing. The GB1 kicks ass BTW Casinostocks Casinostocks . Nice choice sir!

Yeah, my friend chipped his zdp stretch cutting a hose. I already have a Spyderco Tim Wegner hunter which has a similar blade, but way thicker, but hollow ground. Also I have the Bladetech version pro hunter which I had reground full convex by Nick Docyk who's a forum member. Both of those knives have really similar blades to the Stretch but are better collection pieces for me and I don't love backlocks so I'm good.

I planned on getting one of the full flat ground Infidus on Wednesday but I passed out drunk because my wife was home and she kept asking me to clean the basement. They are sweet.
