Random Thought Thread

I agree with your view on the pre-orders, but the poor duffas who came in #18 on the Friday sale and thinks he got a knife may be a little bit pissed when he finds out that 3 people ahead of him bought 3 knives each. I can see these guys saying "to hell with it, I'm never going to get one of Nate's knives" and spend their money elsewhere. Just my humble opinion. I could be wrong.

SNORT! OINK. OINK.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Friday sales be a 1 per person thing just to keep the chances of scoring a knife fair across the board, but if a buyer is trying to get one for themselves and their kid, I'm cool with that.

Fyi mat i wasnt referencing you. I think everyone missed the point of ny statement...which i already edited...but ill quote myself and hopefully point out my POINT:(yes its been a night lol)
Magically --> ebay --> markup.

When a guy claims to buy his sons knives, and that exact knife turns up on ebay, that's not my sophistry. Nor do i have to answer for it.

Any garter snake smart people around? My dad came down to help me work on the siding and trim I'm replacing on the house and at about 10am while I was cutting a piece of furring strip a bunch of garter snakes just randomly came cruising by. There were probably 20 in the initial group/flock/herd/pod/whateveryoucallagroupofsnakes and most just went on by but 3 or 4 just hung out for like an hour. They acted weird though, like they were curious or something. They didn't just go hide like you'd expect, they'd move away then sure as spit they'd be looking right back where they came from. They were staying close enough they actually got a bit annoying, had to move them around. I'm no herpetologist but I've had a bunch of different snakes and reptiles around, the closest I've seen before was bearded dragons looking for food.

I'm guessing the large group was cruising towards a winter spot but I really have no idea what the hell the sightseers were doing. It was a very odd thing to see.

I'll pass your question to cj65. He's our local herp-a-derp. He's shootin' at defenseless doves, but he be able to answer.

They may be looking for a new den.
I used to catch those little buggers all the time at my parents house but they disappeared all of a sudden.

Uhh, I'm curious about snake behavior, and I've raised a bunch of reptiles. But let's be real, sometimes every herpetologist has to be prepared to hoist the black flag and cut every non-poisonous reptile's throat. Sad.

NJBillK NJBillK i carry my D2 EDC daily so I'm sure it's showing a little. I've been doing a decent about of fishing off Sandy Hook so I'm sure that's gonna catch up with me eventually and that D2 is gonna rust.

grogimus grogimus Was it during a solar eclipse? Animals act weird then. You can tell if it's related to the eclipse if it was pretty dark out... :D

NJBillK NJBillK my LC has some nice staining starting after taking out a live Russian Olive. My EDC shows nothing after cutting fruit and slicing tomatoes, which I thought would produce (ha! See what I did there?) something.

Does anyone have any CPK with patina to show?

I have been using mine regularly and it is showing a bit.

Anyone else?
My "normal life" 3V EDC isn't showing any wear or patina, but it has only seen light day-to-day work.
My "I'm going out to do shit" D2 EDC is scraped up a bit, but no patina yet. I'm pretty consistent about wiping and oiling after use.
I haven't taken the 4V out for anything more than getting a fancy dinner with the wife, but I'm planning on changing that soon. If memory serves me well, yours is a 4V.. correct? That's probably the most likely steel to show patina.

MikeKu825 MikeKu825 Yes, it is a 4V model. I am used to 1095 and O1 in the kitchen, and traditionals in the pocket, so I tend to be rather fastidious with the wiping and cleaning of the blade once I am done using it.
I was actually surprised/glad that it doesn't require any oil. I mean, it does, but it is not reactive enough that without it, it will rust.

I carry the knife daily, with only going one or two days without it since I received the knife. So with my frequency of carry, and uses, anything that would cause adverse staining, tends to be gone before it can really do anything. That being said, I will reiterate that, given the HT, it is not that reactive of an alloy. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that most users perception of the alloy fall in line with my own.

Sometimes you are a bada$$, sometimes not. Because squirrels can still turn tighter than English setters can think.

There are about a dozen staples under all that. Tore himself up pretty good. I could see things in the wounds that were definitely not the way the good Lord made 'em. I saw one torn tendon and opted for some professional doctoring. Fortunately it was just some connecting tissue, so he'll be fine. His ego is a little bruised. The squirrel got away clean and he feels really bad about that.

What exactly happened? He just run into something at full bore?

Sorry to see your pup in pain. Hope he heals up quick.

Oooh, poor poor Pup :(

I'm sure that he's getting some very well deserved sympathy, love and attention but give him an extra few treats from us the dog loving forumites, will you Tony?

I had him in an open space running off leash. He was vectoring in on a squirrel that was making for a tree. Last moment the squirrel broke left, hard. The dog tried to turn as well and his left front foot slipped and he piled it up on some sharp rocks.

Lacerations mostly, but one cut had a shred of what I thought was a tendon hanging out of the wound. It was only (thankfully) some minor connective tissue. No surgery, only a bunch of staples and bandaging.

I'll pass along the well wishes, guys. He's working Mrs. fromMT pretty hard for treats already. You can tell he's hurtin. Dock says to keep him down for a bit. I should show her the demon dog picture from a few posts back...
