Random Thought Thread

Speaking of random.... I learned two things about dishwashers today. One, there is filter/screen in the basin, in front of the suction inlet to the pump. Two, is that if you fail to clean it for over 5 years the accumulation of gunk is gross beyond belief. Gag reflex has been suitably tested...

Hey I have a handy and simple fix for that! Drag it out to the road and set it on fire and install a new washer!

...Jo and I just installed a new dishwasher today for pretty much that same reason...

^ the Western States are already ravaged by fire and I think MT is one of them suffering from those wildfires. I heard that the authorities had to evacuate some school kids in Missoula County, MT because of the smoke situation.

Not the best idea to set to anything out here in the West on the middle of the road. #imjustsaying ;)

Why not everybody just shut the f*ck up until tomorrow morning - then use a little common sense and talk about knives sometime? Just a modest suggestion.

I could be wrong, but wasn't this Random Thought Thread started so folks could discuss things OTHER than knives?

That is not a random thought. Why is it here?

And the the last sentence I wrote is not a random thought, why is it here?

I rest my case, whatever it was.

The process goes like this...

The wife calls and says, "hey, the dishwasher is leaking out from under again.... all over the kitchen floor!" The husband... CRAP!!! "what did you do?" Wife... "I did not do nothing!" Husband "did you clean the drain in the last year?" Wife... "Nooo... I forgot about that"

Husband... gets real patient and lowers voice... "remember when the repair guy was there 2 years ago, (and charged us 145.00, because the warranty period was out by 11 days) and lectured you about needing to clean that? Wife... "yesss, sort of, but that's stupid! why do they make them so dumb?"

Husband gets more patient, and straining to keep his inner self all mellow, says... "well it probably needs to be cleaned out, but if it has been damaged, we will just buy another new one"

Sometimes I get annoyed when I get hungry. It starts to feel like eating a few times a day is inconvenient and takes too much time when I have so much to do.

Then I start to think, maybe I'm doing life wrong.

But inevitably I buy a new knife, feel much better and work another 7 day week.

Repeat.

I'm glad there are statutory holidays.

I feel your pain Justin, I really do.

Everyone is different but I'm of the opinion that if your 30's don't suck hard you didn't do it right. Then ataraxia sets in...

I can see that, kids will be out of the death magnet phase, wife will be back to work. Hopefully renovations will be done, highway construction as well. Life should be easier.

Not complaining about my first world problems. I worked super hard to get us where we are, and continue to do so with the help of my wife. And compared to what I saw while over seas I'm very lucky.

I believe success is a measure of where you are from where you started, and by that we're doing very good.

Just a long day when I'm up at 5am leave at 5:30, off work at 1am, home at 2am, shower and in bed by 2:30am, then the alarm goes off at 5am again.

Only do that a couple days a week but still, adds up when there are no real breaks and my commute is about 100 miles round trip.

But when I get home early and play with the kids, have dinner together, bath time and story time before bed. Sit down with an adult beverage and pour over the details of a new knife (almost always CPK) then hang out with the wife before we turn in, it's all worth it.

Love some Foo Fighters! Have seen them twice in concert before and they really rock the crowd!

I have a feeling they might be in Seattle at some point in the future, so maybe there'll be a road trip coming up! I miss road trips to concerts, I haven't had one in a couple decades

From time to time, I visit the sites of major residential tract builders in the area (KB, Shea, Williams Lyon, et al) to gain insight into their layouts, construction methods and materials used. A few weeks ago, I toured a site being developed by D.R. Horton where USB receptacles appear to have gained a foothold in the kitchen. So I implemented the idea in my own kitchen, improving upon the idea by installing them horizontally (neutral facing up).
