Rare GECs

Tom, their acrylic is very tough. I've never had a problem of any kind with the dozens I've had, but I have never carried the same one for more than a couple of months, total.

I have quite a few rare ones. I have a 1 of 8 GEC toothpick, and a 1 of 6 wharncliffe half Congress, a 1 of 22 pioneer, a 1 of 18 burnt stag #60 fixed blade, a 1 of 1 letter opener, a 1 of 1 blade key, etc.

I'm not so sure it really means much because almost all of their stuff is small batches.

We'll see as time goes on...

True about the batches joe-bob, and it makes finding one you really like all the more satisfying. Who really cares about future value? It's so tricky to assess.

661210 Pearl LG, One of Eight! This is my new EDC (after work). I think it's cool to carry something kinda rare. It makes it a little more special. Also, by me putting wear and tear on it over the upcoming years it will make the other seven out there a little more special! Not that I abuse my knives!

Nice ones Jeff and Grant!!

I was going through my list and updating the numbers for some I had and found a few I missed.

#23 Ruby Red Jig Bone 22 pcs. serialized 3 pcs. no serial number

GOOD OLD DAYS #488210 Burnt Stag 22 pcs. no serial numbers

#538308 Snakewood 33 pcs. serialized. I'm including this one for now but not sure that it is correct. The updated '08 numbers only mentions 33 serialized ones but the one below does not have a serial number.

Here is one you don't see everyday:
Black Micarta #66 Mink Skinner 668210 No Serial
Despite the 2010 tang stamp it was made in 2011. GEC lists that only one was made although I have heard that there is at least another out there and probably one or two more.

I carry, use and sharpen it often; the tube is not its home! Both blades are stained, the shield is very scratched and even the micarta on the pile side has a couple significant scratches. To be honest I had no idea that it was rare when I bought it, but I don't regret using it. It has been a great knife.

Well, it's not that I don't care about the future value at all...I have some that I use and some that I don't. It would be nice if they had some value later on, but it's not my main reason for collecting them.

Beautiful muscrat Tom! Looks like a well used and well loved knife! Will you be marketing the squirrel koozie? You definitely could identify your drink at a party.

Trand & Grant,

Thanks for the compliments.

First run of squirrel koozies is coming soon!! It was a joke that we are taking waaay to far. But no, they will not be marketed:o

The 66 Mink pattern itself is rare, doesn't get shown a lot either, looks very good with use. Can you eat that type of squirrel?

As BRL is so fond of saying, rarity does not equal value, but it is kinda cool to know you have the only one of something: my red jig bone bottle opener is the only one made. I've never used it, I bought it as a novelty. I have an old-timey bottle opener screwed to the wall, just like God intended. :p

Here is one in antique green jigged bone that they made 130 of, but only 5 unserialized.

We have one on the side of the island in the kitchen, installed by the former owner of the house. One of my son's friends was over recently and thought it was so cool. She had never seen one like it (poor girl!).

Have they ever made knives that aren't on the production run list? I have a Northfield black gold #538210 and I can't find it on the 2010 production list.

Yes they have. This is a 735109LECEB Scout that is not on any of their Production Tables. It is a parts knife. Some think it will show up on the 2012 Production Tables -- we'll see.

My 2 blade Ebony #73 on the previous page doesn't exist in the 2010 totals but it too is a parts knife made this year. There do exist knives that aren't on the production lists... for example, while searching for more #48s I learned from a dealer of a 1 of 2 single blade #48 in Church Glass Acrylic that isn't on the production list. Wasn't what I was looking for though so I passed.
