Rare GECs

True, but I have the original tube for it with the correct handwriting of the model and handle material showing no serial number.

I have always liked the look of that appaloosa bone in pictures.

Here are a couple that I believe were "short runs:"

That Half Congress is sweet.

I lucked into this rare blonde bombshell of a #72 lockback from the first run (2010). The tube-top sez it's a Yellow Rose, but it has a double bomb shield in lieu of the usual rose, and the standard Northfield etch replaces the "Yellow Rose of Texas" version. The dealer I bought it from believes it's one of only two made. This one has the best lockup I've experienced from a #72 so far - absolutely rock-solid.

Ahh, you're the one who got that one huh? :grumpy: It was gone before I could even find it on the site :D I'm sure it looks better in your pics!!

biglmbass,

Does that 66 have Northfield etched blades with no Bullwinkle on the spear? If so I believe I picked up its twin a month or so back. The dealer I bought it from said he had only seen one other like it and I would bet he was referring to yours. The front stag even looks similar. A beautiful knife and I had been looking to snag a stag Northfield BJM for a long time but this one has regular Northfield etching not the genuine stag etch. Not even a proto etch.

There are only a couple knives I own that have no flaws that I can see or feel and this is one of them. Have no idea of the scarcity or history of how they came out with this combo of parts. I did wonder if there was another out there though. Yours is a beautiful one, I really like it.

Was anyone on here able to snag one of the SFO #85 EO with organge osage wood that were released a little while back? I'd love to see if pic if you were lucky enough to grab one :)

Will,

Evidently I'm mistaken and it's not a one of one. Mine is exactly as you describe. That is, regular N'field etch and without the BJM on the spear. It's actually somewhat of a hybrid I suppose as it's burnt stag, but without the typical shield put on burnt stag N'fields. They leave the shield off the genuine stags. Does the tube label on yours indicate burnt stag?

Yes, it does have 'burnt stag' on the little tag on the top of the tube.

I am not sure at all whether they just forgot to put the shield on these two or whether they were prototypes and they forgot to put the proto blades on it. Whatever the deal is I really am impressed with its workmanship & am glad to see its twin. I decided to get a handful of stag handled GECs to represent that type of todays knives. I hope they make a 2nd cut run of the 66 bullwinkle, that's my favorite handle material and I have a couple others styles in that and really like them.

Not sure how accurate GEC's numbers are on this one but assuming they are true, this is 1 of 2 Ebony Cuban Stockman that don't have a serial number.
#538311 Ebony Wood 25 pcs. serialized 2 pcs. no serial number

#538308 2nd Cut Burnt Stag Factory Test Production Run. This one is #23 of 24 serialized ones made.

Now thats a beauty Trand!

I think I prefer the 2nd cut stag. I love the small areas of blue/gray color and I really like the lighter brighter over all color to show off the grain.

She's a real gem!

Thanks Confucius, I feel the same way. GEC jigs their 2nd cut stag most of the time but I wish they offered the smooth stuff more often.
