I guess I'm qualified to sell MS stamps through the mail if anyone's interested... :)

I don't know, Tai. But I only have a high school education and one year of votech, welding. They let me in.

I think I now understand, Tai. You have too much education!:D

My father always said, he went 4 years to college and it took him 8 years to get over it :D

A mind is a terrible thing to waste :p

Nope and why should they? My ex-father in law is probably one of the best industrial maintenance guys around and he just learned to read (he was raised on a farm.) Is this about to turn into a "I have a graduate degree and they don't" sort of argument? If so I'm rather disappointed in you Tai, not that you care.

I respect your work and look to your pieces for inspiration. You and Tim Lively's work as the Neo-Tribals were my introduction into bladesmithing.

Are you a lonely person Tai? Or are you simply bored? Why do you have such a predisposition to take thread and turn it into a one man sitcom? Maybe you should go back to school and take some interpersonal communication classes.

I am more than happy to hear your opinions but your ability to derail a thread is quite frustrating. Any chance for reasonable and useful discourse on this subject in this thread is most likely gone. I agree with you on having more respect for those who chose to blaze their own trail. At the same time I respect some of the folks who choose to participate in the ABS. That does not mean I will join. I simply wanted to learn more specific opinions on the matter. It is not so much your opinions but the manner in witch you post them that draws attention away from he original question. Whether it is done for your amusement or some other reason it is rude.

Just to make sure,… I’m glad you have your high school diploma Don…. Congratulations!

I think that it is a good minimum requirement for any “educational organization” with a degree program, or trade school...

I’m proud of you! Good for you Don!

O.K…. now I rest my case. :D

Isn't anyone going to answer my question?

Let me state this question again... Does the A.B.S have any basic literacy or minimum general education requirements for "eligibility" in it's journeyman smith and master smith programs? I've never heard of any, but I am curious???

... If not, that could be a very significant part of the problem!

Did they not let you play in their reindeer games or something, do you feel left out? This is what it sounds like to me. Seriously what in the hell does literacy have to do with holding a hammer?

You have to do a little more than just hold it.

Hey Tai, I've got a High School Diploma as well. Maybe that's why I get it :) Good point for an educational organization with certification :D

Who here has brought more "attention" to the ABS than I have?

O.K. now I rest my case... :D

Sighhhhhh

The stamp implies a certain level of technical knowledge.

Never mind....

Join the ABS or not, go for the stamp or not. You won't get turned away from hammerins, answers from other bladesmiths or whatever. You're not going to get shunned (in the tribal/medievel sense of the word) for not being in the ABS.
