UPDATE 8-2-22 RESOLVED AMICABLY

I’ve edited this post, under no obligation, to reflect the relevant details of a resolved matter.

Brendtech189 Brendtech189 and I had a dispute as to the condition of a purchase and the proper resolution. This has been resolved. Ryan contacted me and at the end of the day he did the right thing. He took the time to actually apologize for a misstep taken without ill intent. He also specifically said there were no strings attached and he had no condition that anything be revised.

Thank you all for weighing in and responding to a situation. Even if it took a post and gathering community opinions, we all do things we regret, he ultimately accepted responsibility, did the right thing and I found that meaningful.

Brendtech189 Brendtech189 - Ryan Smoliak screwed me. I paid every dollar of a full full price for a “mint” CRK large annual, came totally messed up. Had scratches all over it and had a clip insert (stuck inside void) AND clip on top. The void for the clip was all damaged too….as if there was a clip insert stuck in there and someone was trying to pry it out, unsuccessfully. His solution was to install a clip on top of the clip insert and sell it off as mint.

Although at first telling me the damage was microscopic and I got a free clip insert out of it he acknowledged the damage and that he would make it right. After a month and a half of jerking me around and avoiding communication he told me to spa it. That was nice of him.

Then offered me a “refund” but not really, only if I sent him the knife back, he would spa (assuming CRK was able to fix it) and he would sell the knife to some unsuspecting buyer. He “had no money” to really refund me but he’s been selling $5k CRKs and has been on a buying spree.

Full Disclosure: Out of hundreds of transactions I have only had 2 claims/issues as buyer (none as seller) ever:

1- was a known scammer (not Ryan) that I chased till I had him arrested and he will be facing charges for ripping me off, subsequently a police officer and many others.

2- this occurrence with Ryan Smoliak Brendtech189 Brendtech189 who had every chance to make it right and chose not to.

Not a surprise to me.......after many pm's which I couldn't respond to, being asleep, (sent during the early morning hours, 1:00 and 2:35AM) for two days, cause "he works so much, and has crazy hours)". First a low ball offer, then an "I'll take it at the asking price", then a day later a "sorry nice piece but don't have the money".

I hung out two potential buyers while waiting for him to pay me, they went on to purchase other knives.....I will never deal with him again.

Is there a sales/deal thread for the CRK in question? Would be useful to see what was represented in the sale.
Didn’t plan to post today till I saw Brendtech189 Brendtech189 Ryan Smoliak was actively on buys (and sales) and thought I should report sooner rather than later. Yes will organize it all including texts (majority of communication was by text) and have it up between tonight and tomorrow.

Those clip inserts can be a bitch to get out if you don't know how., and obviously someone did not. Putting the clip on top just compounded the problem. I don't see the clip covering all damage. With high prices come high expectations, and I haven't seen him bargin pricing anything(totally personel opinion ). But to be fair he does have some rare items.
I hope you 2 can get this worked out to your satisfaction.

I sold $60K plus of top notch CRKs in less than 3 months and this guy gets mad because he can't get a $1,500.00 refund, when the problem would only cost shipping fees. Sorry my friend, but I'm not falling for that one. Ask anyone. The quality and quantity of the pieces that I sold to the CRK community cannot be matched, and the number of grails that I've sold people is uncountable. If I'm mistaken, please let me know.

Funny how one of the pre sale pictures Brendtech189 Brendtech189 sent shows the clip raised and not correct, yet he still tried to deny the possibility of it. There’s absolutely no way Brendtech189 Brendtech189 didn’t notice the issue before selling, no crk clip looks like that. Asking the buyer to send it back without a complete refund, months after sale, so he can send it in for spa service and send it back is absurd.

I don’t agree. If you’re doing so much business, it shouldn’t be an issue for you to refund this sale where the item was misrepresented. Doesn’t matter if you caught the issue or not prior to sale, it’s been pointed out to you and the sale should be reversed.

You did not sell him a mint, in the box knife. It’s been tampered with by a previous owner, that makes it USED.

I had this issue on a knife before and I think I used one of those very tiny eyeglass screwdrivers and applied light pressure with a plastic bag wrapped around the end from inside the screw hole and it popped out. Looks to me judging by those scratches like someone tried using a fork in the dark.

Brendtech189 Brendtech189 Ryan Smoliak - your are mistaken, the number of people who contact me privately with similar or worse experiences with you is what cannot be matched. Also the price I paid you keeps going down. Another great tactic of yours and even if it was $1,500 (which it was not), you still don’t get to dismiss it because of its unworthiness vs your $60k in sales, which also makes me wonder how the seller(s) faired.

Your sales volume does not give you the license to screw over somebody or misrepresent the condition of knife.

Btw wasn’t “I dont have the money” one of the BS reasons you used to not give me a refund.

People like to cite their previous sales volume or things like their fleabay rating, etc. when all of it really means jack squat when you screw over one person.
I’ll keep the DM’s private as asked of me, but he’s doesn’t have a sales or purchase history to be proud of.

Between late last night and this morning about 5 additional members messaged me with issues they had as either buyers or sellers.

Notably, one of them looks like a purchase he made, tried to claim he never received it and then turned around and sold to me. I’ll get to the bottom of this one. It’s possibly criminal.
