Rick Menefee Knives...

Hmmmm, let me see if I can play this correctly: Rick, I don't know what the big deal is about your knives? Guess I'd just have to own one to find out? (Waiting patiently for Rick to send me a pm about a knife for me) 😉

I kid. I kid. Can't wait to see the final product on this one.

Dang Mark:cool:! That was quite generous of Rick:) that's going to be on wickedly cool knife. I can't wait to see the finished product :D

I love the WIP pics by the way! Keep them coming:thumbup:

Thanks Ryan! I just want to clarify to everyone that this is a custom knife Purchase. Rick is being gracious by taking my order which is not something he normally does.

These are the recent WIP pictures that I received from Rick on the Bent Gunstock knife

Out of the nitrogen:

Roughing in three positions: "I scratch a line across the top of the frame on the spring. Then I cycle the knife to see how close I am." - Rick

The Jig: "This jig has changed over the years. This is how I fine tune the three positions when the blade is cycled." - Rick

Fit up: "This is the way I like the spring and kick to meet in the closed position. Better action and less stress on the spring." - Rick

Thanks again Rick for sharing your WIP pictures with us! Very educational and the knife is looking great!

I love seeing WIP pics. Really goes to show you how much love, attention and talent goes into making custom knives. Helps me appreciate them even more.

Thanks for the information Rick. I am in the starting phase of this knife building stuff and shop design is like gold to see. I love your metered jig system for blade cycles!

Gary

Rick,

Purpose of the matches ... do they ignite during heat treat to burn off the oxygen thereby reducing oxidation? Does grinding the blade after heat treat induce a possibility of tempering the blade (reducing the hardness)?

Thanks guys. I'll be back in the shop tomorrow night. Breaking stripers to lead at the lake.

Looks like you have your priorities in nice order Rick. There are more important things in life than making beautiful knives, after all. ;):D:D:thumbup:

Surface grind: "I now surface grind the blade and spring. I use a .005 bushing on each side of the blade. The blade has to be .010 thinner than the spring. Some of the picture # don’t show this. Grin..." - Rick
