Ritter MK1 in CPM M4

I went ahead and bought another knife in the mean time. Couldn't help myself.

You guys think there is any chance that benchmade is just waiting for a certain number of these to sell before producing them? Just wondering...

Hi Tracks -

I doubt that - I'll bet Aeromedix and/or Doug Ritter have already obligated themselves to so many knives being produced.

It just seems to me that manufacturers like Benchmade and Spyderco have a backlog of "semi-custom" knives and it just takes time to produce all the custom variations while still satisfying the demand for the normal production models.

I am sure that nobody wants these knives shipped more than Mr. Ritter, and of course Benchmade would love to have them done so they can be paid as well.

It'll be a very nice surprise when we all come home and that beauty is in the mailbox.

best regards -

ordered one of the MK1 fullsize myself a week or so back. I phoned BM just to be a pest and heard about the middle of april for a ship date. Looking forward to my first ritter blade.

being the collector that i am i must have picked up 8 or 10 pieces since placing this order. sure im ansy as hell to get this thing but i dont mind waiting after all what am i gonna do with the thing, use it?

I was just thinking if it takes them a certain set up time / cost to run a production line for a specific knife model that maybe they needed to sell a specific number of em first. But I don't know a damn thing about knife making on a big scale. Just thinking out loud. I'm not in a big rush. I do like to play in the forge myself but that's the extent of my knowledge. All I know is it will become my EDC knife so it's not just a collector for me... so although I'm ok with the wait I am looking forward to seeing and using it. I'm sure we all are.

Excuse me, but this comparison with 'I couldn't use the excuse of "they will be delivered when they are done" without getting close to being fired at my job' is comparing apples and oranges. At your job you are paid to do your job and of course the employer has expectations. In this case, nobody has their credit card charged until the knives are actually shipped, so nobody has actually paid anything.

Compare to the M4 Military, you have to put up $20 deposit and delivery is in July (which is perfectly fine by me), and I haven't seen people saying things such as this. I can't understand the moaning.

My credit card was charged the day I ordered the knife because the sales person gave me the option of paying then or later and I just wanted to get payment over with. Despite that I really don't have a problem with the wait. Just looking forward to receiving it and happy to chat with others who have ordered this great knife.

I don't really mind the wait either. But, I still see a parallel between the two. "I'm a really great worker, worth every penny that your going to pay me to work for you. I will be at your house to work for you in February.... Well, I got kind of busy with other work. Not to worry though, I'll be at your house to work for you in March. That is, if I'm not too busy between now and then. But, hey if I do get busy I'm sure I'll be able to get to you by April............ probably."
I have two of the earlier M2 models that I normally EDC.
So, I've got a couple of great fill-in users 'til the new M4 models gets here. Service or product, I don't give a date out unless I am sure I can make that date.

Yeah, I got kinda bored waiting for my Ritter M4, so I ordered a small Bone Collector yesterday. Yeah, it's only D2, but if it feels good, and I like the blade shape, I might be cancelling my Ritter order. What can I say...I'm fickle!

Complain, complain, complain thats all I hear. You guys knew it was a "preorder" when you ordered so quite complaining It just makes us knife nuts look bad. You know damn well that Doug Ritter is reading all of these posts and probably benchmade too. If you don't wanna wait then hurry up and cancel so we don't have to hear from you anymore.

I'm not complaining. I don't mind the wait at all if it means they are taking the time to get it right, and knowing that Mr. Ritter is involved I'd say those things won't be shipped out until everything is exactly the way he wanted. And I mean that in a good way.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure BM doesn't do the DLC coating in house or at least they haven't in the past.

Put this in perspective? This is my guess. Doug Ritter wants, and knows we all want, a re-run of the M2 Grips, and works hard to twist BM's arm to get them to do this. Aeromedix signs on and agrees to retail the knives when they're made. DR and Aeromedix get a target date from BM, but BM has - and this should be no surprise - bigger fish to fry, and fish that are their fish, not someone else's. So the timing slips...and it slips...

It happens. Actually, it happens just about every time. I'm waiting patiently. Actually, the CC I gave Aeromedix was stolen yesterday so I gotta call them up and have the set the order up with the number of the new card...

I'm not complaining. I just have a short attention span...:D
