Rockstead Knowledge Thread

I only stropped that much to fix the edge. Very light pressure. Luckily I didn't mess it up. Blade still sharp.

Another method, is to use the corner (or edge, rather) to strop the area in question only. This will keep you from stroping the entire edge and just touch up the spots that need it.

Where are you guys buying your Rocksteads? I can't find anyone with a Higo-JH-DLC in stock.

You can look overseas, a few stores in France have quite a few, or try contacting Rockstead and perhaps they can set you up with someone over here in the states.

Another option is to keep an eye out on the exchange, but that can possibly void your warranty if they have already registered it with Rockstead. Personally, I'd opt for a certified dealer.

I still can't even seem to find one even across all of the European retailers I've looked at. Heinnie Haynes had them up until recently, but alas. Hopefully Rockstead is making another run now because most retailers seem out of stock on the popular models.

PM coming your way:thumbup:

Hmmmm...interesting, I wonder who could have bought one (or two)... :D

Just curious, anyone have a high serial number like my Higo JH DLC (#439)? Most of what I've seen online on top out at the 200s...

263 on my Hizen but it's less popular than Higo.

Isn't the Hizen a much newer model? I have a feeling that its size and price point will soon see it as Rockstead's top selling folder. My friend has one and it's a great size for most unless you have huge hands. It's a better EDC IMHO.

The Hizen has been out for quite a while. The Hizen/Higo and models with stingray inlays have been out for quite some time. Then came the Sai models in titanium (which I believe was their first titanium models), and the Shu followed after.

Now their latest is the Shun, and the Ryo will be the newest; this of course doesn't include their beautiful fixed blades.

Hey Blues Bender,

Do you know if they'll make the Shu in YXR7? Seems like the new release knives (Shun & Ryo) are only in ZDP. Is Rockstead's production cycle such that ZDP is first released then YXR7 some time later?

Thanks

I am not certain if the Shu, Shun, Ryo, or Sai will ever be produced in a YXR7 version. I believe the Sai is the oldest of said models and it has not been produced in YXR7 as far as I know. Rockstead has released many "limited editions" though, and we may see one of these models made into a limited version with YXR7, I don't know though.

Here are a few of the limited editions I've discovered, there are many more:

Tei-TDZ (Titanium/Stingray; notice the high polished flats, very cool!)

Correction: the Sai was not their first titanium model like I said previously.

The Nehan-T was produced before the Sai.

Those Higos with wood scales look great! They look like they have nested liners or something, as opposed to how the Higo-X is done with the liners showing. Do you have any more info on them?

Where can i get these wooden higos? Does the hizen come in wood handles aswell?

Lamna.fi is also a certified rockstead dealer. Thats where ive bought mine.

I saw the prices and let out a hearty laugh. They look nice, but definitely not $1000+ nice. For the price of some of these, I'd be able to get a full custom quite literally encrusted with jewels...or more than ten ZDP-189 Enduras. You guys have your fun; happy for those of you that own and like them, but unless you can convince me otherwise, I'm gonna have to say these run a little contrary to my value-oriented philosophy.
