Gents,

I believe I slightly folded my edge last night. Doesn't affect cutting and you can only see it when the light hits just right. You can barely feel it when you slowly run your fingertip over it. It's only on the clip/non-presentation side of the knife.

Any thoughts on how an inexperienced sharpener like me can fix this without messing up the rest of the knife would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Did you try stroping it out?

If it won't strop out, you'll need to use something like ceramic to realign the apex. Another option is to use 2000 grit sandpaper with oil on it and sharpen it in an edge-trailing motion.

If you're not very experienced with sharpening, there is a chance you may scratch the mirror finish. Sharpening a Rocky isn't the easiest if one isn't knowledgable about edge-geometry, sharpening mediums, and techniques.

Thanks Blues Bender! I gave it about 6 passes on the denim strop I made but I'll try more passes today. It doesn't snag when cutting thin coupon paper so I'm not too worried. Figure Rockstead can fix it when I eventually send it for sharpening.

It's like when your new car gets it's first scratch, you can now abuse it like the tool it is...

^ awesome pic stician! should be your new avatar!

Took my Higo to the strop about 15 - 20 times and the "bend" is gone - back to perfect. Gotta love YXR-7!

Nice pairing and agree...b&W does help with the lighting.

Thanks. I don't have a lot of stuff so I focus on quality when I can. Happy to sell two Spyderco's in the last 48 hours and have one more to go. I am saving for the RYO-H.

great news. so Rockstead's 2-3x recommendation is just a suggestion :)

Over stroping can resulting in a loss of sharpness. Aluminum oxide found in compounds like Flitz is much harder than your blade steel (80+ HRC), and it's possible to "round out" the edge if either you over strop or have poor technique.

It's wise to only strop 2-3x like recomended or you are just shortening the longevity of the "signature" Rockstead edge.
