Rockstead Knowledge Thread

Personally, that was a decent deal imo. I was trying to avoid you from getting an infraction:thumbup:

There's a story behind that Micarta Higo...you must decide young Luke if you want to save a few hundred upfront or pay the difference plus some down the road. That is if you decide to keep it.

Legit Authorized Dealers are the way to go with Rocky's. IMO.

My Higo-X-IW review

The details of yours over the JH are night and day. Don't get me wrong...I have no complaints whatsoever about mine but like the finishing touches on yours like the Rockstead name that they imprint on the scale fasteners. That was a mouthful...inhale.

I'm preparing for the day I actually need to touch up my blade and am making a denim stropping board and wanted to use Simichrome as the abrasive. I simply couldn't find Pikal.

Is this stuff similar to Pikal or Flitz? Any reason why I should not use Simichrome for this application?

I used to use Simichrome to polish just about everything, including the heads and cases on my motorcycle. The only reason I haven't used it more recently is because someone gave me a big tube of this stuff called POL metal polish. It comes from Germany.
To be honest, I have not had a need to polish a blade yet, but Simichrome, Flitz, and POL all worked very well on aluminum, brass, and even some abalone shell pieces that I had polished in the past. I would think Simichrome would be fine, but I don't know what its grit rating is. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in. I'm interested in a definitive answer also. Mike

I'm starting to question my intended use of Simichrome for stropping. It is a chemical polish not an abrasive polish so probably just answered my question? Help. Anyone?

Oh, it was used? I didn't look that closely:p

I wouldn't give ACK my business anyways! They're a bunch of snakes.

Makes sense that there's a story behind that knife as the grind really looks like Shinogizukuri instead of Honzukuri...

I keep staring at this and want it so much but can't justify the price because I'd only carry it around my house... argh...

The micarta Higo's come in both grinds. I really want one, but I already have a Higo:D

I believe the same is true of FLITZ.

Does anyone have a Kou? It seems like a great size for edc.

I don't have a Kou, but I have a Chi (the next size up from the Kou). Personally, I find the Chi to be "perfectly small", and if it were smaller, I don't think I'd like it. Beschcode basically had this same problem. However, I can't speak for you, as you may feel differently.

These pics will give you an idea of the size difference between those two models. They scale out to compare the differences in size.
