Rockstead Knowledge Thread

I love the look of ur knife and the wood handles. But im not sure if i would like the leather sheath and that the knife doesnt have a belt clip since i mostly use the beltclips on my knives. What do u think blues?

Well, I didn't like that my Higo lacked a clip too, but I still gave it a chance. Actually, the leather sheath is great once I tried it. You get more space in your pocket and still can carry a knife. Also, no clip is more comfortable in the hand, and looks cleaner too:)

Yeah i can understand what u mean and would love to give it a try. But for double the price?

Double? $750 to $1100 isn't double:D[emoji14]

Btw, as requested I have a sharpening video being uploaded as I type this.
True, ive been looking on heinnie.com and its almost double the price there, 450-750 gbp if i remember correct. Is the handle thickness about the same? Nice looking forward to that sharpening video.

If anyone tries this and ruins their edge, that's your own fault, not mine.

Broke down the Higo for a cleaning. Pic heavy. Enjoy.

*Here's a tip. Make sure the pivot bushing is inserted completely through both washers. It may appear that the washers sit on top of the bushing but they do in fact insert. If you don't do this, you run the risk of warping the washers as you tighten the pivot and it also creates an off centered blade. Not good.

I confirmed with Ishida-san at Rockstead that the VG10 clad ZDP-189 steel is not coated and the handle is almost 100% pure titanium and not the popular Ti-6Al-4V alloy used by knife makers.

Will take daylight pics tomorrow. Happy to report it had met my highest expectations and the serial #38 happens to celebrate my 38th birthday in a couple of weeks.

Really, it's not 6AL4V? Maybe someone with more metallurgy knowledge can chime in but I thought the alloying elements were added to make it have more fatigue resistance?

I'm reading Wikipedia and I don't see this relationship. It would seem Ti-6Al-4V is cheaper since it is alloyed with 6% Aluminum and 4% Vanadium. Just a wild guess. Ishida-san said they use pure Ti as 6Al-4V is very difficult to source in Japan.

As far as I know, the Shun was not limited. I believe the following message was due to a slight delay in production.

"To our dealers

The SHUN-ZDP was completed the reservation on SEP 20. Thank you very much for your reservations. We will deliver the product right after our production is finished. Please be waiting for a while.

To customer
If you would like to reserve this knife, please contact to us. I can introduce the dealer near your country."

The Shun is out of production. Only 140 pieces were made.
