Rockstead Knowledge Thread

Mind PMing where you got them from? I'm looking for a Higo DLC and am hoping to buy within the US.

According to L0mein, Knifecenter has some models in-stock that are listed on the website as "Typically ships within 2-4 months."...aka out of stock.

Maybe try calling them. Perhaps their inventory isn't correct.

Don't know if this is news to anyone, but the clips and lanyard pins from a small Sebenza 21 fit on a Hizen. The clip is too straight, so it's not very useful, but you can swap out filler tabs if you want. The shoulder on the lanyard pin is a little small, but you hardly notice it with the lanyard in place. Personally I find the lanyard pin a more elegant solution for lanyard attachment than just threading it through the hole. Based on BluesBender's experience with the tritium vials, my guess is that this holds for the Large 21 and the Higo as well. I'm curious if this was an intentional choice.

This is quite interesting, nice find!

I will say, that the Higo-X-IW does not share any traits with the Large Sebenza lanyard hole. The Higo has a smaller diameter and less length. However, the duralumin models may be different.

David, I knew it was only a matter of time before you posted a couple. Congrats on the beauties.
I just remembered I am not supposed to be reading this thread  They sure are fun to look at though. :D

Thanks Brett - much appreciated. I'm looking forward to getting to know these better. It's always fun to dabble in something new. :)

Keep us updated David! Glad to see you joined the club:)

There should be a Rockstead club... I'd call it On the Rocks:D

I thought you had a tritium vial in your Higo's lanyard hole? I was under the impression that it was the same size as the one you use in your Sebenza, but I might be getting things mixed up.

Here's a quick picture of the Sebenza lanyard pin in my Hizen. The internal shoulder is a little too short, but it's not noticeable at all unless you look.

Nope, you've got it right. My Higo and CRK's sport 4x10mm tritium vials. The Rocky has a much tighter fit than the CRK's, and the vial sticks out a little bit on the sides.

Emailed them, looks like the end of January :( not the worst wait, but this thread isn't making it any easier!

I have always admired the rockstead, but am a ways off from plunging into the depths of that world. By chance, does anyone know where I could find video or a tutorial of how they grind/sharpen their blades?

I need your advice guys... So I have a lead on a Higo-JH-DLC in the US that has been lightly carried. The price is pretty good too. However, it has already been registered. Do you owners feel it's worth saving about $150 to buy it on the secondary market? Or is having the warranty integral?

I'd say buy new. Just think, if you chip the blade badly, who will repair it?

Very good point. I was hoping they would offer to service them for a fee but I don't see anything about that on their website. New it is!

I'm pretty sure Rockstead would repair any of their knives if damaged but would quote you first then charge you. Kind of like going to your local auto mechanic.

I am curious as to how do you adjust the centering or blade play if it ever gets out of wack on a Shin?

I've got to think (and please correct me if I'm wrong) blade play and centering has to do with the reassembly but especially the pivot washers. If the washers aren't seated correctly, damaged in some way, bent etc...this is where most of this occurs. That's been my experience anyway.

My guess is that the pivot screw is hidden under the Stingray insert and that you have to send it back to Rockstead so they can remove it and adjust it. But I must imagine they have it loctited down pretty hard to hopefully prevent that circumstance.
