Rockstead Knowledge Thread

Well, after a little more effort I was able to make my Higo "front flip". But, I assure you that it doesn't flip well, and it kinda hurts your finger when doing so. I have handled true front-flippers, and the Higo-X is not one of them.

You can open them by the tang with your thumb, which I do anyways. My CRK's do the same thing. But flipping them won't work because their lockbars and detents aren't tuned up to be flippers.

Nice vid blues. I had the feeling that the Higo's flippable :)

Well, kinda. It's not a flipper though, it looks as if it flips open easily in the video but it actually takes a lot of effort to make it flip.

Notice how stiff it is when trying to close it.

Yeah i can imagine. If it wouldnt be that stiff, some more lubricant it would flipp much smother. Just like a front flipper

It's not lubrication (or a lack of) that causes the stiffness, it's the pressure of the lockbar. Take your Chi for example, disengage the lock, and you'll notice that the blade swings freely or "smoother" as some might say.

Bearings, washers, lubrication, etc have little to do with "smoothness".

Picked up a ZT 0450 yesterday. Great EDC sized flipper. Lots of value and nice detials for $160. Here it is with my Higo:

Wasn't sharp enough so I took it to my LKS and showed him my Higo's convex grind. He copied it.

He got rid of that ridiculous tip and it's now a little sharper than my Higo. Had him do the same convex grind to my ZT 0561. Simply amazingly sharp.

^ awesome! I'm a whiskey guy myself. Wife got me a bottle of my favorite for Christmas:

My buddy got me this for my birthday this year... it's tasty but I have no frame of reference...

New Acquisition.

The fit, finish & attention to detail on the Shu's handle are simply stunning.

I have fairly large hands and this knife is incredibly comfortable in any grip.

A large finger choil let's you really choke up on the blade for precision cutting.

Light weight and perfectly balanced.

The button lock is smooth as silk for easy one-handed operation.

If you're looking for a high end gentleman's folder, look no further.

^ stunning. Congrats! The Shu was the first Rockstead I ever wanted (still want) and I'd get one in a heartbeat if/when it's available with YXR7.

VERY nice Rob! WOW!

I got the Chi in today - ZDP-189 clad in VG-10. And...I like it!

Congrats David! Glad to hear you like it.

What do you think about that fantastic grind? I love all the different bevels at the tip, it's almost like facets.

Yah, the grind is amazing! The bevels are very facet-like and create a really striking effect. I see what you mean about a quasi-"lock-stick" (as you mentioned in your video) - mine seems to be doing the same thing. Like you, I don't consider the phenomenon true lock-stick, just a reassurance that it takes lock-up seriously :) No play at all, smooth action (though I could not get it to "flip" - but don't plan on really using that technique anyway...I have plenty of pure flippers for that). It's also very comfortable / ergonomic. All in all, only had it a few hours, but the first impression is strong!
