Just checked and I think it's back up to 795Knifecenter has some Rocksteads on sale if anyone is interested. $750 for a Micarta Higo is quite a steal!!!
My SHU-C arrived a couple of days ago--HOORAY!
What with the (were once stupid) Australian knife laws, machine breakdowns at Rockstead, and a huge increase in demand for models ahead of it in the line, it's been over a year since this knife weaseled it's way into my mind and the "have to have it" category.
As is Rockstead's habit this knife was delivered amazingly sharp and absolutely perfect--including the mirror shine on the blade all the way to the edge. What an elegant piece the SHU is. With the blade locked out there is no movement--none at all--and it clicks home beautifully when folded away.
Now I know that most blade steels relax (or something) for a few days after sharpening and will be less sharp than immediately after a sharpening session. I've found that any blade will benefit from a minor stop a few times over the following week or two to make sure that they will maintain the razor edge for which I aim. The spontaneous loss of extreme sharpness does seem to disappear with this stropping after two or three goes.
So with that in mind, and knowing that the Rockstead edge was at least two weeks old since it left Japan, I fixed it in my sharpening clamp and gave each side a half-dozen very light strokes with 100,000 grit diamond polishing paste on a balsa wood base. Testing this on my telephone book showed that it was easily cutting a one inch turn-up of a page--sharper by about 25% than the CHOU which was already better than anything else I own.
The SHU is now resting in my pocket and travelling with me daily and looks like staying there for a while.
A Merry Christmas indeed.
I hope yours has arrived by now.

If the clip was there it would be in a cut-out in the foam insert.

As Rob said about the clip, mine was in the box as per the picture.
I also go a very nice microfibre chamois cloth marked "Rockstead" in the package, as well as the paperwork.
Definitely do pursue the clip--it is a part of the complete package.
I can't see myself ever using the clip as I prefer one of my home-made leather sheaths for EDC.
Greg
Thanks Greg, and yes everything else was there minus the clip. The foam itself doesn't show any evidence of a clip ever being there. Appears that they just forgot to put on in there,
I would email Noriyuki Ishida (nori at rockstead.jp) immediately, sending him a photo of the foam insert, no clip.
He is usually very quick to respond. I'm sure he'll ship you a clip same day, rather than have to deal with the retailer.
Rob,
Good idea, but I've already emailed the retailer and I'm pretty confident they'll help me out. However I think I'll take your advice and forward a picture though.
Thanks,
Dan
Dan,
I'd be ensuring that I included the serial number of the knife as well.
Have you registered it on the Rockstead site?
Greg
p.s.--I just had a look at my box and there are no indents around the clip recess.
Do you guys know or maybe have guesses why KOU was discontinued? It really looks like a baby-SHIN, quite a nice blade. Was it not selling as well as other models?
Greg,
I just received my Shu but I discovered that I didn't receive the removable pocket clip. I have contacted my retailer to see if they could contact Rockstead and have them send one but I was wondering if you had received the removable pocket clip with yours and if so where was it? I checked everything and I was unable to find one.
From Rocksteads' website:

The Japanese apricot picture was engraved to the scale made of titanium. The clip is in the same package. You can install the clip by removing the cover parts. This is a knife for the gentleman with a Japanese image.
At last, my Shin ZDP is on its way, 2 day shipping, man Ive been waiting for the chance to get this knife, I ordered ZDP, I read a lot about the finishes, this one requires less maintenance and it wont show all finger marks the other one does, besides, I like the contrast between black and metal
