Roger Linger stole my payment for WSK

Chuck, I have been there and done that myself. I sure wish I had a time machine and could go back and change a few things.

Fortunately, as we get older and perhaps somewhat "wiser", we tend not to make those mistakes as often. I have discovered that instead of acting (or "posting") immediately based on irrational thoughts, it is better to "chill-out" for a little bit and clear the thought processes. The end result usually comes out quite different that way.

I am okay with it all now and am rather glad he decided not to accept the knife. At least now I can call it over with and the knife's new owner is very happy with it.

Now, back to the ol'grind.

I wrote a big nasty post last night here about how upsetting this thing has been since the get-go, and how the idea that trying to burn a guy down is an acceptable way to get his attention is just simply outrageous, and totally unacceptable. But before I hit 'submit' I decided to follow Roger's lead and, as Roosko says, "chill out for a little bit and clear the thought processes".

And I'm glad I did, because this:

... is one of the truest things I've read in a while.

Roger, you're class all the way, and I hope I get to meet you and shake your hand at one of the shows some day. Same goes for the rest of you makers that posted here.

That's all.

Wow.....

I thought this 'ended" on a positive note until I read Roger's post. What is a "deep" apology, isn't a sincere apology good enough?

Sounds like this collector is looking for blood to go with his refund!!!!

Folks, this is a man who I have the utmost respect for. Roger you are a good man for the way you handled this situation. Calm and cool through the whole ordeal. My hat is off to you friend.

So is that fat lady in the baby-Tee singing yet???:(

Onward and upward Roger :)

Oh, and for those of you wondering, I do suppose for the fat lady, it could be inwarder and roundwarder. ;)

Let's put her to bed boys. If the customer wants to say more let him. He deserves to be able to. After all I remember well all the expected deliverly times on semi-inletted rifle stocks that never-ever even came close to getting there when I was promissed they would and I remember thinking it enough to make a preacher cuss. I am sorry. I am. He does have a right to be tee'd. It is over and done and I ain't losing any sleep. My new sheath maker is not bothered by having to send the package back to me and the new owner is tickled. That is important. All is well and you guys have been most kind to me on this thread - and else where too.

I am finished with this thread. Thanks to all.

Roger

Well everyone, I guess it is all my fault and my bad decision that I paid him in advance. My main purpose of this thread was to make Mr.Roger contact me. But seems like I failed. This is becoming who is right and who is wrong or he is a good person, he is not a thief, etc. Since I found Mr.Linger on this board I thought a good friend of him might tell him to contact me.... but it is not happening yet. Thank you so much for all the good members of this board who had posted for this thread. I really appreciate all the comment. By the way, I do have experience of ordering to other custom knife maker. When I ordered, he said " there is a long list and it would take about more than two years, etc." and it did take more than two years. However, it is a different story, and different out come this time. When ever I order something, I will be more cautious. Please accept my apology for posting this thread.

This is an old thread, ended on Nov. 10. Most of us can only read English -- messages in other languages would be more appropriate to email.

absolutely, sorry Cougar
I just said his spelling is worse than mine. you can see he changed it from the original that was e-mailed to us.

I would think if he knew the language he'd get it right in the first place
for what reason he likes doing that is beyond me:rolleyes: :o
but what do I know  :D

also on his e-mail it says

Sorry! That user has specified that they do not wish to receive emails. If you still wish to send an email to this user, please contact the administrator and they may be able to help.

I believe that Rodger's honesty and integrity are as high as his knife making skills. That being said, I do believe that it is his responsibility to let his paying customers know about expected delays to avoid this very dilema. With all the good guys gone bad accounts on this forum, I would hate for someone to mistakenly confuse me with one of them.

see how things change over the course of time.....a few years ago you were singing is praises, until he disappeared with your money!

Need it now, buy from a dealer. Give yourself some room on on makers and knife type. You also can buy in the secondary market.
When I buy I car I pick three I can live with. Then I go shopping. Color I also pick three.
Having owned a business or two I would say, do not answer your calls, or email , and you are out of business.
There a a lot of fine makers and smiths who are lousy at business. Some times the excuse is they are artists. I am not sure what that means.
If you can not do orders, sell what you make, no special orders. Use a dealer to sell your knives is also a way not to have to deal with end users.
If you have a major problem do a broadcast email to all your customers , or have a friend help.
Other then that , your out of business !

I don't think it is a bad thing to bring back threads about unethical people. It keeps what they did fresh in people's minds. The Hall of Shame is kind of like sticky threads. I don't think that many people read what's there.

If you're going to resurrect Really Old Threads, please try to be a bit more complete in your references. I couldn't see, anywhere in this thread, a reason for your comment above. Only by searching for threads/posts by cleaner145 was I able to figure out what you were talking about.

For everybody else: I guess USMCV is referring to this: Roger Linger - No Knife, No money, No contact.

Having watched the progress, here on BF, of other knifemakers spiraling into the ground, I couldn't help but notice the similarity of their sagas to Linger's. So when I saw all those vehement defenses of him, my thought was "We'll see."
