F585F916-F52C-4A84-A464-949688D18164.jpeg I just got this RR canoe in carbon steel and I am impressed.

I sharpened it up and started to take the blade coating off.
The blades took a great edge and I think this will hold a decent edge as the blades felt harder than the regular RR stainless and imo that stainless is a good steel.

Has anyone else had any experience with these carbon steel RR’s?

Once I get the TiNi coating completely off I want to see how well this stuff takes a patina.

I have the Colt version of the RR carbon steel canoe.
It's a great knife, and holds the edges quite well ... as good or better than my Case CV Canoe, to be honest.
The Colt's blades are a bit thicker than the Case, though, approaching twice as thick, so they seem as bit more heavy duty, IMHO.

afishhunter afishhunter The main blade is quite thick on this canoe also.

It is probably the same frame as the Colt, I remember seeing them for sale a couple years ago.

Actually the way it feels in hand it could well qualify as a “hard use” knife.
It is solid and has a bit of heft for a small knife.

I really miss the Colt label.

What kind of grind does the ЯR have?
Sorry for the delay in answering.

The Colt carbon steel canoe I have is full flat grind on both blades.
As far as I have been able to ascertain, the only difference between the Colt carbon steel canoe and the Rough Rider carbon steel canoe is the tang stamp.
My other Rough Rider canoes all have a full flat grind.

All of my other Rough Riders (in a variety of patterns) have a full flat grind on all the blades.

I don't know about their fixed blades or "modern" one hand openers, though. I've never owned or handled them.

Some of the RR lockbacks and whittlers have saber ground blades. Most others are flat ground or slightly hollow ground.

I always thought they were a little cheesy but I saw this in a shop and grabbed it. A Taylor/Schrade Classic folding dirk. It is solidly put together, locks up well. It is a fun, good sized knife with a long thin 4 inch blade.
