Rubber Bucky will make the rounds again!

I'm looking foward to getting RB112..It allready has a spot in the big box but I'll EDC it for a week or two.I think we will see the day Buck puts it in production..Likely as a LE but mabe as a Custom Shop option. It really works! So why not?? The toughest test I gave it was slimey fish guts..No slippage at all.

Actually, I'm nursing a bum finger--working on an underground wire that I needed to splice in order to get power to a light fixture that will be lighting the flag pole I just installed in my church's Memorial Garden. One little slip with a 110 FG and I'm temporarily handicapped. It's not my trigger finger, though. A lady, at church this morning asked me about the bandage on my finger, and just told her, "I did something stupid with a very sharp knife." She said, "Won't you ever learn?" I said, "Obviously not!"

The really bad news, or jinx, as it may be, I was just braging to a friend, who was looking over my knife collection, about how long it has been since I cut myself. :jerkit:

My wife's only comment was that it was a long ways from my heart!

Tin Sue can have ago at the RB-y and by then I should be healed up enough to chance it again.

what ? no one wants the bucky?
ok my friend in the north ..
i dont know what to tell you..
we got two guys trying to be tooo nice ..
who ever sends you a street address first i guess can try it next..
any one want to try it out speek up..

No one else interested, I'll take it. Just don't want to jump the line. My address is on page 5 of this thread.

OK fellas...having played with this knife I can tell you its worth the cost of postage to handle and play with. I particularily liked the shape Dave got when he reshaped the broken tip on the blade. So get in line you'll like it too.

I do have a lot of horse mat.

MWallace,

I would be interested in some of that horsemat. I bought a set of alpha scales but the preshaping is a little thin in spots for a 110 as Dave has pointed out so I put them on my Rosey Alpha User. Since I'm currently intrigued with the Rubber Bucky idea...and I'm not quite the purist that Dave is:D I'll give the mat a go if your ok with that idea.

Flatlander, PM me your address and I'll get some off to you. The mat is 5/8" thick. Would you like me to put it through the bandsaw and send you some pieces 5/16" thick (less the kerf)? Or is that too thin?

ok the RB is on the road again!
like gee ...i dont really want it back any time soon!
CJ gets back in town on the 10th so give him a few days
and then will check with him on if he will once again Judge
Dave's Annual Buck Knife Sales Slogan Contest! (my 3ed !!!)
for which this RB will be the prize..:D
(sans sheath);)

FYI, I was talking to one of our long time engineers about the period of time where we used forged sides for the 110. This was just after castings and just before sintered parts.
I told him how those forged parts made for a somewhat weak action. He explained that the left and right side were forged as one solid piece. They were then cut apart from each other and flat sanded. If you look inside the case, you should be able to see the circular sanding lines.
4th Version knives through, I think, 5th Version, Variation 3 are forged.
The only good thing about these forged knives is that this is where we find the rare inverted 3 liner! :)

So all this to say that the reason for the mismatched thickness on Dave's RB is probably because it is a forged handle and they sanded a little more off one side...or a little less off the other.

well it is good to know there was a good reason..
i was thinking it may have been one from one batch and one from another!
nothing like hand work
now we know what to look for on the inverted 3 line!
BTW:
any one there took a look at the old rubber bucky ?
if so who and what did they think of it ?
as best i can recall Cj, Dave, Phil and Pete wanted to see it...
i understand it is some thing that most likely
has less then a 50 / 50 shot to happen
but that long shots do come in..
if they do shoot it down as not a chance..
then it can come home and i will send it to
a GI in Afghanistan for use as a Battle Buck!

Dave, if you do decide to send one to Afghanistan, or Iraq, let me know and I'll make you a sheath to send along with it.

If the powers that be fail to put this into production, my personal opinion is that it will be a major mistake on their part. Just my two cents!!

I agree TS. A checkered rubber handle on a 110 with S30V steel or one of the others. Will be a good seller. Would like to see the price stay around $40 to $60 price range or less. In a production mode and proper advertising, price should be less than something out of the custom shop.

Heck, I will order a huge quantity of them and start selling them at gun shows. :D

but, as long as we are dreaming, there are a couple of other mods I would like to see on one as well. would like to see the cross thumb grooves on the blade and bolster, like on the alpha folder.

I think Buck needs to make that evolution on a rubber handled 110. I want a work knife. Have plenty of pretty ones. ok, ok, so go for titanium bolsters while I am at this dreaming thing...

The rubber bucky is on the way to Rudderjt!I had a great week ,really put the knife through its paces and its better than everything i own for grippiness, except for a bg-42 sambar stag Joe had re-worked for me,basically that knife can't be touched.lol

I touched up the edge on a leather strop, thats the only sharpening it really got and is still very sharp .All in all a great idea buck should definately try the rubber scaled version in a production 110.PLEASE???????/LOL

Hey Mike,

I did a little grind test on the mat to see how well I could shape it. I think it'll work just fine. It is different working with it on the grinder.

Dave,

Mike sent me six pieces...I'll send you two if you want to try this on your Rubber Bucky.

Cool Flatlander, I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do with it.... are you gonna have to run over to WallyWorld and pick up another 110? ....:D

LOL. I got two that day and have landed deals on another one plus two 112s on the bay. Those three cost me $95 to my front door. I find that amazing really. There is not a single U.S. made high quality knife anywhere that can compete with that. Amazing

Dang, I just realized I could have ordered a CS110 all dressed up in S30V, FG, NS, & Walnut for that money. No worries, I'm having fun.

fun is what it is all about!!!
any thing else is WORK ...
or does one work at fun or fun is work also?
Why Not! yes i will try the mat... could be fun also..
BTW: ugg.. daughter or grand daughter cleaned up around my desk..
a box and few used emphty packages disappeared
