Rule #9 XXL World Tour 2016

Well,it's been three weeks since the package was last SCANNED. Why could they not have lost one of the cheaper fishing reels I ship out daily.
Who files the claim for the $50 insurance? Shipper or shipee? Probably me I suppose. I'll give it the 30 days and then I'll officially contract John to make a new knife for Mack. At least it will be available for hunting season.
The missing box was well taped and the knife was rolled up in a vinyl Penn Fishing banner, undetactable even if you opened the Box fully, so I doubt that theft is the issue here. The only thing else in the box was a new Penn Visor for Mack to shade his pirate eye. I wish this had not happened, but... sigh.
My confidence for the knife to show up is low. I actually did have a knife get returned to me about 6 years ago that I had shipped to Italy. It was a custom shop Buck dagger and Italian Customs held it up for months and then finally returned it to the US because it could "not be proved to have never harmed anybody" (it was new and in he original box?) That whole fiasco took about 6 months start to finish. I had a Fin Nor reel that I sent to Cape Coral, Florida take about two weeks because it went first to Guam, and then to Hawaii and finally back to the CONUS and eventually to Florida. however, tracking continued to follow it on it's journey.
Well, if the original comes back to roost someday after it's replacement has been made, I'm sure there are many of us who had the pleasure of sampling it's goodness on the Bassaround who would love to buy it.
I had it last, so I'll take responsibility for the loss.
I feel horrible about this. I have no doubt that you did everything the right way. The USPS somehow screwed up and it's stuck next to a machine or in a bin somewhere. I already filed a claim so the ball is rolling. I think when I filed the claim I said 200 was the value but that may or may not matter to them.
I'll call them today and see what they have to say.
Thank you guys. You're the best.

I ordered a knife from "knife connection" about a year ago, it took over 30 days before I got it. Knife Connection mailed it right away, it just vanished in the USPS system only to show up when I had given u hope. Hopefully that happens here!

Mr. B Jackson, give me your pay pal and I'll donate a little to help cover the loss. I'd hate to see the USPS mistake ruin any future pass a rounds.

I think that the knife could still show up at some point in time, I had an insurance claim check show up about three or four months late because the envelope got caught in a mail sorting machine and got tore up a bit. USPS repackaged the entire parcel in a larger shipping envelope with an apology letter inside for any inconvenience and eventually got it to me. I wouldn't lose all hope on it just yet, for what it's worth it may just be a matter of time for them to find it and get it to you.

Most definitely. Send the PP address my way too and ill donate to the fund.

You guys are all very kind, but I was the cheap ass who under insured the package. I'll pay the piper.

I look at it more like paying rent for getting to use that bad mama jamma to clean up my driveway.

I talked to the post office again. They assume it fell next to a machine in Chicago and hasn't been spotted. Ughhhhh.
It's been 21 days so they say you can file a claim for the 50 bucks insured.
I wish they were more responsible for their mistakes.

Sounds like some overpayed underbrained supervisor should get out of his office and look for it.

I am still hoping they find that knife!

Wow I just read this thread, sure hope the knife shows up. I work as a auto technician for the USPS at the Irving Park mail processing plant. There is a lot of things that could happen to the package. They have this three million dollar machine that sorts packages, when I walk through the plant past this machine I notice all the torn up packages laying on the floor next to it. In my mind I would call this machine the shredder. They do have a re-wrap area near by. Also they hire temp. employees and caught some steeling medical marijuana out of some packages. They also have an airline facility attached to the building and some of their employees were caught steeling. I have noticed that the postal police have been keeping a closer watch and have conducted random searches. They have cameras and look out stations throughout the plant.
It's probably a small percentage of packages that come up missing considering how many get shipped but it does happen.
I think from now on when I make sheaths and send the knife and sheath, I will add more insurance. Also I always put the customers address inside the box in addition to the outside label.
Take care, John S.

It never arrived anywhere after departing Chicago. Some USPS flunky has a really nice free knife. I hope he cuts an artery.

I just checked the tracking again. No change. Aargh.
The usps made me jump through a million hoops to get the insurance and when I finally cleared the last hurdle they said I had waited too long.
I've rarely been that irate.

I think there are a couple guys on the forum who have experience navigating USPS insurance issues. You might try a post on GBU (i think that is where i have seen people talk about this before) asking for help. It seems like there have been a lot of stories with them not wanting to pay insurance. I know i have seen these threads before, but i can't remember any of the advice or whether this specific subject ever came up. I believe one of the gentlemen i have seen give good advice on how to get the USPS to pay what they owe is Monofletch. If you post, he or someone else might jump in with some ideas.

Sorry i am so late on this, i hadn't been following the pass around thread.
