sage 5 compression lock in honor of Sal...

I read it right here on this forum from Sal. What type of lock it is etc has not yet been disclosed. All that was said is that the Sage5 is already in the works. Im not gonna find it for you, try the search button!

I'm sorry, I misunderstood your original post. I thought you meant that the Sage 5 was in development with a compression lock, but that information regarding the materials has yet to be disclosed.
I've read the original post by Sal and had thought that you were outlining new developments.

Also, there's no need to discriminate against those of us with low post counts by assuming that we don't know how to use the search function. :)

For one, I didn't even look at your name let alone your post count. I know the type you are alluding to, experienced "forumites" that scold people for asking questions asked over and over again. Its nothing like that and you asked a question deserving of a proper answer. I just tried to answer your question as best I can short of going out of my way to find a source for you since you were curious, hence "I'm not gonna find it for you, try the search button". I'm hardly expert in anything knife related, just another dude here and would be the last guy to police people for not using search lol. I do misunderstand what you have to say sorry for. Its hard to convey things in words perhaps a smiley can help ;)

Does a sage knife need a lock or can it be a slip joint?

I can see it in my head: Brass liners, nice shiny bolsters, wood scales and a bug shield from a centofante 3/4.

I have a minor guilt complex that dictates that I say sorry every time there is a possibility that I might have offended someone. :)

Meh, we're all here to learn, Im as eager as anyone for word on any future products but totally understand that accurate information in this case trumps hearsay and rumors. Both have their proper place on the boards. Hope I was of some help somehow!

Go hang out in the whine and cheese section for a bit, you will lose a bit of that guilt complex:D In general though the Spyderco sub-forum is great, you will learn a lot, most people on here are awesome and you will be able to interact with Sal on occasion. Everybody had 13 posts at one time, and was new.

The Sage series was originally created to honor innovators of certain lock types. A slip joint isn't really a type of a lock, and I don't think anyone can really be credited with inventing this lock. I think it's for this reason the compression lock isn't part of the Sage series. Since Spyderco invented the lock, to make knife that honors their own lock would be like giving a trophy to yourself. Personally, I'm hoping for some sort of AXIS lock, but maybe with better springs.

An Axis lock Sage, Ive inquired about that before. Does'nt BM's patent run out? I can imagine it already...Sage10 McHenry Williams Axis Lock hehe. BM would feel less bad about utilizing the Spydie hole :D

I think it should have peel ply carbon fiber since, to my knowledge, Spyderco is the only company to use it.

They should do an integral bolster lock with the lock side titanium and the other side with a glass fiber insert.

Like it's possible for them to feel less bad about it.

I think a homage to Ken Onion would be cool. He pretty much only works with Kershaw and CRKT, but didn't the Spyker involve Ken Onion? A stud lock nested right above the Spydie hole might be feasible. I like the first three highlighting a maker of a lock, and the 4 is awesome looking, but Al Mar did not invent that lock, I would like to see it get back to highlighting a particular lock innovation and then adding style touches that maker has.

I'd buy one for several reasons :

A: Sal seems like a great guy and I appreciate his attention to these forums.
B: the compression lock is legit
3: The sage is an excellent EDC knife
Gamma : I like buying knives

There will definitely be more folders in the Sage series paying homage to various other locks in addition to the current Sage folders (liner lock, frame lock, bolt action lock and lock back)

Here's what Spyderco Byte (December 2013) said about the Sage series:

What does the future hold for the Sage Series? Well, in addition to continuing to recognize the contributions of other designers, based on popular demand we plan to showcase our own lock innovations, including our patented Compression Lock and Ball Bearing Lock. These locks have definitely stood the test of time and earned their rightful place alongside the other notable mechanisms in the series.

Per Sal there are more in the works with different locking mechanisms:

We have a Sage 5 in-the-works. Very complicated lock so it's taking more time.

A Sage with a Button Lock would be nice. Love it on the William Henry folders.

In the plan.

New to the site and been collecting knives for about two years now. Love my spydies so much. Would love to see more with the dlc coatings, the sage is terrific. Although I don't own one and probably wouldn't because I like a slightly larger blade. If it did have the tungsten coating I would probably start drooling and get one. Can't complain cause the new manix2 dlc is out now! Would love to see more options with the coated blades especially ffg versions.
