Sailors of the Sheepsfoot Main

The Oakedge sounds very nice. I've never a fancy work knife with file worked backspring and blade, so I don't know if the file work on the blade spine acts like jimping.

It does give a place the rest the thumb, and it certainly catches the eye. From what I have seen of the process on line, it requires quite a bit if skill and extra finish work. I am impressed that Oakedge can offer it as an option for such a reasonable cost.

I have a vintage lifeboat/ rope Camillus, and a Schrade Walden, but both are well over 4”.

For a shorter one, I’ve really been tempted by the Case pattern#31.

If you like modding, there are always a bunch of vintage hawkbills on the auction site. I’ve come to appreciate hawkbills, so would be hesitant to mod a pristine one. But there are a lot out there many with wonderful walnut or rosewood scales that have been abused by a grinder that are fair game for re-shaping.

I did that with an abused Klein hawkbill.

I’ve also thought about rehafting this Schrade florist with wood or bone...

Any of these can be had much cheaper than new ones.

Many thanks! The Schrade 163 certainly looks like it might have been the inspiration for Micheal May in the version that Leslie shared earlier in post #41. I certainly like the look and variety exhibited in the older knives, although for me the spend more time in the drawer or the toolbox than in my pocket. Of course for others, my preference is too small for their hand so all examples are of interest!

The Le London knife is pretty darn nice. The fit and finish could be a little better, as the liners on mine were a tad proud. But the walk and talk is great, with half stop. And the lines are nice. Doesn't seem as "chunky" as the Otter to me, but I don't have one to compare to. The best thing is the size is perfect in my opinion. Just a little bigger than the GEC 15. There's no nail nick though. I haven't seen anyone talk about these on here. I basically had to take a chance, but it's my favorite anchor knife now. Got the smaller one, by the way. Trying to upload some pictures, but having issues at the moment.

Thanks! I was wondering when someone would give some input. They certainly look like a fine knife, update us as you put it through its paces!

The Otter ankermesser Is a great knife. And very affordable. The sapeli wood version with carbon blade is nice. The sapeli wood takes on character as you use it.
