I agree with everything you just said! I'm curious to see what he will say. Maybe he's just a good guy that made a mistake!Yes, pictures are working. A padded envelope is inadequate for shipping a fixed blade knife.
Seems he may have violated EBay rules as well by having you buy the listed item outside of EBay. That also leaves you with no protection. Maybe his accounts have been breached by some criminal?
Thanks for your input! I appreciate it. Would a 10" Busse fix blade with a kydex Sheath weight more than 10 ounces though?Yes. The package weighed 10 ounces when sent. So it was not empty when the postage was paid. That does not mean that there was a knife in there, but it was not empty, which is what you received.
But sending an inadequately packaged item is on the seller. Hopefully for him, he bought insurance.
The BF standard is that the item purchased needs to be received by the buyer in order for the deal to be complete.
I would ask on the Busse forum for someone to weigh one on your behalf. I'm sure someone will have the wherewithal. Thanks for your input! I appreciate it. Would a 10" Busse fix blade with a kydex Sheath weight more than 10 ounces though?
Thanks for the input and suggestion! I personally believe that the seller should reimburse me and make the claim himself to cut his loss. Most people including myself ship in a nice box and that kind of situation literally never happens. If it was not a scam the seller was still negligent enough to claim a full reimbursement in my opinion. Dude! I wanted that knife!!!
The insurance payment would go to the seller from USPS, so the seller must make the claim. It was sent USPS ground advantage which comes $100 insurance so start a claim on the USPS website. If your claim is validated you'll receive the standard $100 + shipping cost so $111.05. I am currently working a claim for a lost knife - my claim was validated by USPS - and I am just waiting for my check. Looks to me like someone carefully stole your item and re-taped, since there was weight noted yet an empty envelope. The label does not look like it was generated at the USPS though so maybe it was stolen at the originating second party shipper. Sucks the seller hasn't updated the for sale post though - mods should be able to remove it.
Sometimes ... our lives take priority over our hobbies. Who knows whats going on in the seller life and he may have a legitimate reason for not responding.
On a side-note, be thankful it was only a $250ish knife and not a $2500 custom. We all take risks using PPFF and a lot of us have been on the losing end of the risk - including me.
I hope all works out the best it can. Good luck

That’s about right for this particular knife. It’s a cut-down custom shop version.I would ask on the Busse forum for someone to weigh one on your behalf. I'm sure someone will have the wherewithal.
Good point. S SimonLG did you sign up here just to buy this knife? Or were you a member previously?Seems he may have violated EBay rules as well by having you buy the listed item outside of EBay. That also leaves you with no protection. Maybe his accounts have been breached by some criminal?
Packaging was inadequate. That’s on the seller, not the buyer.

Indeed piss-poor packaging!Dropping a fixed blade inside a bubble lined envelop, without any other protection around the item is inadequate. This is shoddy packaging and shipping by the seller (if that is indeed the way which he did it) which he will have to consider taking responsibilities for the risk factor.
There are some however factors though:
The sales thread clearly states that the knife weighs 7 oz which leads me to believe that the shown weight of 10.1 oz shown on the stamp (label) to be a very strong evidence that the seller dropped the knife in its kydex sheath inside that envelop. The recipient's address is also a Mail drop and pick up third party place which means one additional link in this saga.
Question to buyer: did you not feel the envelop before you opened it? Did it not look suspicious enough to you the it was an empty envelop as you claim? It is natural for you to be very irritated and upset but to put the onus on the seller at this point to accuse him of being a SCAMMER (your way of typing this in his feedback) is not a determined fact yet.
The onus of an USPS insurance claim is on the shipper. Buyer has no recourse. The PO can look up the weights of the package during its journey once a claim has been filed. S SimonLG you better not be lying here, because attempting to defraud the USPS is a federal crime, just sayin’.It was sent USPS ground advantage which comes $100 insurance so start a claim on the USPS website. Just relisted after it didn’t sell for 2 weeks each time.Did you look at his post history? Odd how many times that knife was listed and withdrawn.

He has excellent feedback on eBay and blade forum. He has not erased anything so I am still hopeful that he will come forward.Did you look at his post history? Odd how many times that knife was listed and withdrawn. Seems like he has pretty good feedback here. I’d say he will chime in and at least you can figure out what happened.
I have plenty of history on different Facebook group. He invited me here so I followed him and trusted him. You say "Coming here demanding actions with no history isn't the best approach" ?!? What do you mean? I should be waiting a couple of months and make a couple of trades on blade forum before demanding action? You realize that it doesn't make sense? The seller didn't want to go on Facebook and asked me to come here. I created an account on BF to ease the transaction. My lack of history here should not be a factor. I'm very transparent about everything. Also to point out, the seller has feedback and history here. Buyer has none, except for what’s in this thread. I’d wait to hear back from seller, before claiming they are a scammer and leaving negative feedback. Coming here demanding actions with no history isn’t the best approach IMO.
Thanks for your input. I'm in agreement with everything that you say. I'm Canadian and I use Border Mail Depot in the State of New York all the time. I never had any issues with them. I picked up 8 other packages without issues on the same day the "Busse envelope" arrived. Obviously I cannot eliminate the possibility that a new employee opened the envelope but the window of action would be pretty small. The package was delivered at 10am and I picked it up around 1pm. Furthermore, nothing from the outside could indicate that it contained something cool inside. Looks like a lot of risks to take for the employee for no certain rewards if you see what I mean. That’s about right for this particular knife. It’s a cut-down custom shop version.

Indeed piss-poor packaging! It appears to be a bubble mailer bought at the PO or shipping store at the time of shipment.
It’s still on the seller to provide the goods agreed to (in condition represented) and paid for. I mentioned it in an earlier post, hopefully the seller insured for the correct value if indeed USPS lost the knife.

Casinostocks made an excellent observation in noticing a 3rd-party involved, in this case a “Border Mail Depot”. That greatly muddies the waters here. USPS could deny the claim and say it was delivered, and nobody could do anything about it. This 3rd party holding service could also be responsible for the theft. Nobody really knows at this point where the knife went, if it was actually shipped in the first place.
Buyers should be required to disclose the use of a 3rd party final delivery service. We’ve seen this cause issues far too many times.
Just relisted after it didn’t sell for 2 weeks each time.
One last thought…
People, STOP USING PAYPAL FRIENDS AND FAMILY FOR GOODS PURCHASES!!!
A lot of fishy smells here, it’s anyone’s guess what might have happened.
