SanRenMu 710

to people who have taken this knife apart, what is the order of the washers ?

Is it:
Framelock side | teflon | thin brass washer | blade | thick brass washer | plain side

Framelock side | thick brass washer | blade | thin brass washer | teflon | plain side

As a side note:
I have two 710s (one black coated, one plain). Both were good. I have switched blades around just for fun. Now I have one black blade / plain handle and one with plain blade / black handle. After reassembly both knives still have centered blades and perfect lockup. Built quality is definitely there.

Thanks, that's good to know! :D I don't know what the big deal is. I've had a few Spydercos that were made in China with the same steel - also good build quality. Maybe everybody would feel better if they doubled or tripled the price?

Kidding of course.

hmm, i re-rearranged the washers, but for some reason there's still a bunch of grinding and it's not smooth at all, after opening and closing it a few times. any ideas ?

Yeah get some 4 to 600 grit sandpaper, polish the washers clean everything up as you may have have some microscopic grit in there, lube it and try it again. ;)

Its probably the detent ball got gritty or dry. Just touch it with a dab of grease and see if it helps.

I've been using mine solid for over a week now...its the best $10 I ever spent on a blade, its out performing some of my brand name knives! also been carrying a 962 axis lock and its a solid knife, I like the flat grind on the 962 and at work it has come in handy.

SRM I can see having a bright future if they keep it up.

It is odd. I had the same coincidence happen to me though. A day or so after buying three 710s my bank called me to inform me that someone was trying to use my card to fly from China (HongKong) to Russia or something like that. I'd have listen to the message again to get it all but that was the jist of it. Had it gone through they'd have gotten me for a thousand bucks! As it was they snuck in a Apple mobile me, and people finder fee for two small transactions and when those went through they tried something bigger which threw up red flags. In the end I didn't have to pay for any of it and just got a new card number issued.

The best place to buy SRM is not eBay, but http://www.exduct.com/. I got a 710 today for ~ $11 US via registered mail (they ship worldwide). And they accept paypal.

I find the quality of 710 to be reasonably good, the fit and finish excellent, and the blade perfectly centered with a tight lockup. For a Spyderco or Benchmade, this is no surprise, but it came as a sweet shock for a $11 knife. :-)

What does outperforming mean in this context?

Its amazing to me that people can happily acquire cheap Chinese products on the one hand and on the other hand complain bitterly about their damaged economy and increasing unemployment. Do you not see a connection between these two things? Do you not know what a trade deficit is? Sit back and enjoy those 'savings' you are enjoying on your cheapo Chinese knock-offs but don't complain when they turn around and bite you on the ass in years to come.

You blame the individual when the big american knife corp's went Red a long time ago...and its not just the knife industry that went Red either, the individuals effect on the market is nothing compared to the corporation effect on the economy.

What is amazing to me is that so many corporations, manufacturers, and individuals can open the doors up to doing business with these overseas companies, basically shaking hands with the devil only then to complain when they get burned by the very same companies. What the little guy is left with many times is to either buy what is available or go without. When my microwave died, which was made in Japan in the 80s, I had no choice that I saw from any manufacturer I looked at because every last one of them was made in China that we looked at. I think my wife found one that wasn't but it was three times the cost and still made in an overseas companies plant. Enjoy the savings indeed. What else is one to do?

Great points. :)

China has a middle class now, great for them.....

Guess were all those better jobs came from?

You got it...

The 30 Million plus jobs that are gone forever here in the US, falling Economy, raising Unemployment.... With no end in sight.

The only ones who benefit in the end are the Fat Cat Corp Executives who have sold us out and America to make a buck.

Pay Less Live Better..... Yeah right, what that means is THEY Live better, not us.

Corporate greed has killed our Economy and this time it will take a very long time for it to even start getting better.

Corporations are a Virus and pure evil IMO.

How many more Lives and families are they going to destroy in the future so the Fat Cats can make a few more bucks.

How many more Kids will go hungry....

How many more People will be put out on the street....

Well you can shift the blame to the corporations but it is the consumer that ultimately has the final say on the ways things stand. You make a choice every time you buy something. Granted with certain things like electronics etc it is almost impossible to find something that isnt made in China, BUT in almost every instance you CAN find an alternative. Well, you can where I live. I can buy Sony or Sino-Tec. Sino-Tech is cheaper but you can bet I would rather pay a bit more for Sony.

I have French brands at my disposal, or British. I have many choices. What I don't have are many South African brands, haha. But the USA has many famous brands. Sure, some aspects of the manufacturing may be outsourced but at least the money you spend stays within your country to a large extent. The power lies with each individual consumer. If enough people stand up and say 'NO' then you can make a change. If you dont believe that then why bother to vote in elections?

I'd like to think that but with all the tools and practices available to the politicians and corporations, is this still true?

Oh I agree we are our own worst enemy. ;)

Stupid Ignorant Consumers are a lot the problem and have been for a very long time.

This has been going down hill for over 30 years heading in this direction, a lot of us have seen this coming and now we are here, it's happening.

If this continues in the current direction the US will be a 3rd world country before it's over.

We are being Sold Out....

A melodramatic touch, but the reality stays - you started it, you got to end it. :-) Meanwhile, kids in the US are much better than those found in 3rd world countries. Have you seen real hunger? And what it looks like? Probably not.

You make guns, sell them to 3rd world countries, and then bitch and moan when these are used to kill your people. Ironic?

Again, you started it, you got to end it. Your people suffer because of the policies your government has - it has nothing to do with what IP stealing or copying that happens in 3rd world countries. Its just an excuse and a lie that is being systematically fed to your generations, so that real causes of unemployment remain hidden.

I can go on with this rant, but enough wise people understand who the real culprit is, and I need not say more.

Meanwhile, SRM 710 that I have is the best knife at that price point.
