Savson Swords and Knives

This seems to be a common theme around here and its not too tough to figure out. Buying off the internet is relatively easy with the advent of PayPal and credit cards. Its the receiving that hasn't improved very much. Same old problems with inventory and shipping, not to mention time consuming phone calls and e-mails. The web sites paint a pretty picture but the frustration that follows has diminished the satisfaction of saving a few bucks.

Yep! I agree. A while back I arranged a group buy on a new release knife. I had quite a few from BF, from KF and some local friends. When it came time to tie the knot, I got stood up at the alter. Savson has lost all my future business and recommendations.

I ordered something on 30 Aug from them, and have heard nothing besides an order confirmation email. No tracking number, no shipping confirmation, nothing. I have sent numerous emails from my business account as well as my hotmail account. No response. What should I do now?

I think if I still hear nothing by Thursday, I need to contact the bank. The only thing is... I paid with a debit card.

Any recommendations?

Debit cards are treated a lot like cc. I'm not sure but I think one difference is with a dc you cannot make an immediate stop payment request. Credits actually goes through a third party in order to protect both buyers and sellers. Your bank can explain it better but you need to wait a "reasonable amount of time" before you can request a charge back in order to give the merchant a chance to ship your order, usually it is 30 days. You then need to make chargeback request in writing, explaining why you are making the request. Some banks allow you only 60 days from the date of purchase while others allow up to 90 days. Make copies of all the emails you sent to Savson as well as any email and other communication they sent to you including the order confirmation email and attach it to your charge back request letter. The debit card company will then credit your account while they investigate your request. This process can take a few months but it is the merchant who must prove you received the product in order for your request to be denied.

Thanks for the advice. The knives came in today nearly two weeks after ordering. I would strongly advise against ordering from Savson for anyone else who is looking into it. Their customer service is non-existent and it left me very uncomfortable about the situation.

I placed an order with Randy at Savson on 8/30 and my credit card was charged the next day.

I have sent at least half a dozen emails in the past month asking him when the order will ship, even using several different email addresses to ensure it wasnt a SPAM blocker gone crazy, with no response ever received back.

I do not buy the I had surgery story and things got messed up by some inept fill-in worker that I read in this thread. That is bullsh!t or he would be responding to emails for open orders letting his customers know what is going on.

I suggest that everyone file a claim with the Better Business Bureau, file a chargeback claim with your credit card company, and leave as many comments as you can on forums and sites that review Savson Swords and Knives Company so others will not get taken advantage of like we did. :jerkit:

You can write a review in Yahoo shopping but I think you may need an email account with yahoo. There is also a file a complaint service. It doesn't do much good but file a compalint anyway.

I know my Dad used to order knives from Randy and always got excellent service. Randy would call him right away he he even emailed about an order. Then the phone number was taken off the site after saying it was down and going to be back up in April. Now you must order by net and there is no phone contact #. We never had more than a very small delay when we dealt with him but now something funny seems to be going on and he lost us as a customer when he refused to provide a phone contact number.

Something has got to be done about this guy. I ordered a knife from their website a week ago and have not heard one thing from the vendor. I have sent a number of emails, but as you all know: no answer. Unfortunately my suspicions about the vendor came around after my purchase (when I found out there was no tracking number for my order) and now I'm stuck with my thumb in my a$$ wondering if I'll ever see my order. I am going to follow the advise of the people on this thread that have gotten screwed over by this guy and get in touch with my credit card company to request a charge back. I WILL NEVER USE SAVSON AGAIN! EVERYBODY, DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO AVOID USING THIS GUY. NO ONE NEEDS TO GO THROUGH THIS CRAP WHEN THEY SHOP ONLINE!
I am going to be posting on every forum I can find to let people in on this guy's questionable business dealings.

I'm right there with ya MegatronBreaker...should've searched through this forum before I ordered from Savson. Placed my order a week ago and also e-mailed him on a daily basis from 2 different e-mail accounts...no answer; got the order confirmation but no tracking number...hopefully things would turn out like swimmerdude1127.

He emailed me with a return authorization number but has yet to credit my account despite numerous emails. I sent the knife there with insurance and tracked it. He has it. I will call the cc company, BBB, and the AG office in his state if I do not hear by the end of the week.

What's strange about this whole Savson thing is that Randy use to be very helpful and dependable.

Maybe he is going through a personal strain or crisis or something. In any case it sounds like he needs to make ammends.

Here is an update email I just got from Randy today, 10/9/07. Hopefully he will get around to taking care of everybody. The damage may already be done for some or most of you, but he's just a guy like everybody else going through a hard time. I've dealt with Randy a long time and I really doubt that any of this has been mailicious or due to not caring about his customers.

"Jon, I appreciate that. The fact is that over the past 6 months I have been more sick than healthy and some orders were grossly screwed up. So you understand, there are orders I dropship and orders that I ship. When I have been sick I can have someone do the dropships for me but the orders that ship from here have been the ones screwed up. Because I am a one man show if I go down the whole process shuts down here in ohio and it has affected my credibility, no question. I understand peoples frustations and believe me, no one is more frustatred than I. I am still battling infections and other complications not yet explained to me so it is still ongoing but today is one of my better days so I am trying to play some catch-up today. People just want the things they order in a fairly sppedy fashion and I don't blame them. There are some complaints out there that are justified because there just wasn't anyone here to take take care of it(the hazards of a one man show) but there has been no intentional deception although most of the time folks don't care, they just want their knives and thats the way business goes. I appreciate all the business and have a good day"

I received a call from Randy yesterday concerning my order. He gave me the same story regarding his health, and I can understand that. That being said, how hard would it be to post something on the web site informing customers of potential delays in service? I know we aren't using Pony Express anymore, and maybe I'm a little spoiled expecting my orders to be delivered in 5 days, but if I have to wait a month, with no reply to my emails and no knife to show for it...?
I ended up requesting a chargeback from my credit card company and emailed Randy back requesting my order be cancelled. He will have to do a ton to regain any credibility he might have had in the past. You just don't play "catch up" with other people's money.

Point taken Megatron. I knew he was going to have an uphill battle to fight after all of this, and I don't blame you or any other customer for getting upset. It's not like Randy and I are best buddies, I live in California, he's in Ohio and we've never met face to face. That being said, I was just asking for a little patience for the guy. Everybody in the end though will make their own decision based on their own experiences. Business is business, that I can't deny.

Cheers,
Jon:)

He really needs to take his site down temporarily until he gets whatever personal/health problems straightened out.

I have to agree with that, Richard. Instead of losing future customers, he should just close the site, temporarily, until he can resume full-time responsibilities.

crap i would have ordered from somewhere else, even if it is more expensive if i knew he wasn't keeping up with orders. it shouldn't be that hard to ship something if it is in stock or send an email updating people.
