Ironic that so many people voted for micarta in a traditional forum. Maybe a lot of guys who aren't in to traditionals voted.

I don't think it's that odd. Granted, the surgence of micarta as a handle material for traditional knives is rather recent (and in that respect, non-traditional), but there's a definite following for micarta for "user" knives. But synthetics have been used for many decades. First celluloid, and then acrylic and delrin. Think of micarta as the new delrin. Finally, micarta is something different. The past forum knives have been bone, wood, antler, and tusk. Time for something new and different perhaps?

I voted for bone myself. But the more I think about an ivory or black paper or linen micarta, the more I like it. Especially if we end up with a carbon steel.

I voted micarta. Just feeling that way right now. It really doesn't matter to me as long as the knife is well made.

Would love to see our 2012 forum knives mimic this fine example from R. Bose. I would prefer a shadow pattern if we do end up with micarta rather than bone .. it will certainly save cost if we end up with premium steel (eg. 440C from GEC). I think this is the ultimate WT!!!

Jigged bone. Brown or red, preferred.

I voted for bone but green linen micarta is cool too.

I like the looks of GEC's Standard Green Tea Bone.

Although horn and acrylics sounded good options, my vote goes for micarta.
Possibly canvas or linen micarta.
As for color, ivory is good, green is even better, but I'm open to other options as well.

+1. Sorry Ash for throwing you under the bus on the acrylic.

Plus, with the barehead, the micarta is most likely to take a drop like a champ.

I voted acrylic since I _still_ don't have an acrylic in my edc rotation. Some sort of jigged bone is just fine.

ACRYLIC. I'm saddened by the lack of support. Have you not seen GEC's acrylic?? Pop over to the "Rare GECs" thread and take a gander.

IMO the BF knives should not be run of the mill knives. While still being useful workhorses. I'm sorry, but a jigged bone trapper is almost as run of the mill as it gets. I'd go for a nice, neutral micarta over bone for this pattern, if Acrylic fails. (I've never seen barehead acrylic pattern before, do they exist?)

Notable mentions:
Don't know if one could call this one rare, but it was hard for me to track down one with the pronounced jig-saw pattern I wanted.......still looking for that Kryptonite one though :)

Also, why no wood option? GEC does that VERY right, as well.

I love a nice jigged bone. But there's a time and a place for everything. I feel the jigging on the 2011 EO Jack fit the style perfectly. But the thought of jigged bone on a barehead wharncliffe trapper just doesn't sit right with me...

Wood was not in the top five that people mentioned wanting. Like first post stated I took the "top 5 choices" to make this poll. Thanks Ash

You're doing a good job Ash -- as is the rest of the committee.
