Schatt & Morgan?

Before the Daniels' ownership, they used 1095 for Queen City branded knives, D2 for Queen brand, 420HC for S&M Keystone series, and ATS34 for File & Wire series. Since Daniels' ownership, they mixed them up, at least I haven't seen much consistency.

ah i see thanks, cause i think the winterbottom bone barlow I have thats unmarked may quite possibly be the 420HC. I suppose if it doesnt say, what steel it is, its probably 420. cause the queens I have say carbon, or D2

edit: it is 420 HC which i guess is different from 1095?

my heritage jacks in spear point came in today and definitely like those more than the clip! the rose wood came better than the ebony, which was a little scratched and what not on the blade :(

1095 is a carbon steel, while 420HC is stainless. Queen and S&M knives prior to about 1992 used 440C for a while, but if it is newer and unmarked, it's probably 420Hc stainless, pretty much the same thing that Case and Buck use, although their heat-treatments all differ slightly.

i see, thanks! back to the bay!

from collectorknives, arrived today and the ebony has a tiny scratch on the swedge

I know I'll probably sound like a jerk, but this kind of stuff is pretty standard fare for nearly all traditional knives I own. Customs are the only ones I would balk at having a scratch on.

Have you seen how GEC just dumps their knives in a pile while they're being worked on?

Blade play is one thing, but a tiny scratch like that? I guess I must not be very picky.

I'm glad I'm not a dealer.

Otherwise, that looks like a really nice knife! iI'd be happy to have that in my collection.

o yeah forgot to mention, theres no blade play, but it has a slightly lazy closing. the rosewood was totally fine.

I have a little over a dozen Schatt & Morgans and about the same number of Queens (unless you count the knives Queen made for other brands). I'm satisfied with all of them.

Unfortunately I can't post pictures anymore because Comcast deleted my free online storage ,where I had my little web site and pictures stored.

I just saw the Keystone series with plain bolsters, I didn't know about those when I got the File and wire.
