Schatt & Morgan?

Two new releases I've had my eye on. That large cigar, is that the o e that is like the GEC TK cuban but with a spear main instead of a clip? That carpenter whittler is sweet as well.
Thx for sharing. Could I bother you for a little more detail and a pick or two?
New carpenter whittler and large cigar.

Thank you. Are those off-set ground to fit the two blades within the narrow space? I bet they are super thin and great slicers. And a 1/4" longer than the GEC 53 frame-big and slim....

Let me know, here or PM, how you fancy that whittler over a few weeks (if you don't mind). Reminds me of a 57 Geppetto Whittler on steroids.

Yep. Main blade is a spear.

Great thread! I've been torn between a 331 Cigar and a GEC #54 BigJack. The Cigar is in stag and d2, and the Bigjack in bone and 1095. I think now I'm leaning to the Cigar. Thanks for all the info, most helpful!

Mitch

Is the main blade on that cigar pinchable? I'm on the fence right now on picking one of those up. Also, is there any blade rub when opening and closing?

Yeah mitch it fits perfect I have used it a lot since I got it also. One of my favorites and only have had it a few days.

I just returned a Schatt & Morgan knife for fit and finish issues, which is a first for me. It would have been my fifth S&M knife, and the other four are all solid across the board.

The shield was proud on one side, but sunk too deep on the other; the bottom bolster was a different size on one side than the other; there were flakes in the bone around the shield; the tang had a big concave swipe taken out of it on one side; and a couple other things I can't recall. I don't mind imperfections (in fact, I like seeing signs that humans were involved!), but this one crossed into "how did this leave the factory like this?" territory.

Of my four, I bought one after seeing the actual knife; the other three I bought sight unseen. (The recent return was also purchased sight unseen.)

I don't know if that anecdote will be useful to anyone considering S&M knives, but maybe it will be. :)

had a queen lockback come that way, shield slightly proud on one side, but i think that was because of the bone jigging

More crack than in a Crack House:eek:

Looks like it must have been dropped at some stage, rather than a stress fracture from the pin. Pity as it is (was) really good bone, but I'm sure the replacement will be fine.
