ScrapYard Knives

Thank you for the link. I've never noticed that before.

Heh, I like the part in that link to the Swamp Rat site where it says they could lose whatever contract with Busse...yep, Im sure a husband would swipe a contract right out from under his wife.

Anyways, I had a Busse once a few years ago...one of the "Busse Basic" models. Nice enough knives if you can get them but there are a lot of companies/makers who you can buy knives from that understand YOU are the customer and dont pretend they are gracing you with a gift from God if they allow you to buy a knife.
And they dont tell you that they will NEVER sell you a knife if you dial the wrong shop.

I have never received any kind of attitude from Busse Combat that fits what you are describing here. Every interaction with any Busse employee, including Jerry himself, has always been very courteous and helpful, from knife purchases to repairs to warranty issues & general questions. Busse's customer service has always been top notch. I'm sorry that you feel differently.

Swamp Rat hasn't had any offerings for awhile, but I'm sure that they will have something soon... Hope so, anyway. If you feel that you got "the brush off" for your attempt to join their home forum, may I suggest dropping a PM or email to Eric Isaacson, who moderats the BF.com Swamp Rat forum & runs the Swamp Rat store website, or try to register again. I'm sure that you were not 'brushed off' on purpose. :)

Could you please PM me a link to where you read this??

That's funny... I've been buying knives from these companies since '06, and I have never had to "bow" to anyone, not found it a challenge to purchase what they've had to offer. Busse/Swamp Rat/ScrapYard Knives are what could be considered "semi-production & custom knife companies", meaning that they offer one, maybe two production models for a while, then pull them to begin another. Yes, many of us collect them, but many more use them, some of us both collect & use them. I will admit that when I first learned of Busse and lurked on the forum I did think just as you did until I learned that this was all "tongue in cheek" humor, and that Jerry & his crew really weren't like that at all. Most knife companies seem to have a core following of some type, and Busse does also.

What? Again, most knife companies do have a core following, or "clique"... However, there are many folks who are not "all the way in" who seem to have no problems getting what they want when knives are available for sale. You don't need a college degree to figure out how to buy from Busse/Swamp Rat/ScrapYard knife companies.

I think GMC has phone to call. SR has not as well as SY, so no way to ask them question. Asking on forum only options - I ask Eric question 14 December on their HT for 154CM he showed up on thread 22 Dec to not to answer. He may be annoyed with me for some reason, but this does not really looks like good customer service. And you are forbidden to call Busse Knife Group which SR is member of:

Thanks, Vassili.

Well there all separate companies and I wouldn't expect each one to know what the other one's business is doing. Can GMC answer questions regarding your Chevy 1/2 ton no of coarse not you have to call Chevy for that, so why would you want to contact Swamp Rat regarding matters that only Scrap Yard or Busse can answer.

If I have a question I just e-mail them no problem............

The warranty is lifetime- If you can get a response from them.

in my short time here i have never heard of busse or swamprat not honor their warranty. in fact, even when fellow forumites grossly abused their knives, the blades were still replaced. what do you base this statement on?

I very much disagree with the way they do some buisness, but at the same time, I own four Busse knives now. I may not like the way they do some things, but thier knives are worth it. They can take the abuse you throw at them, and when it breaks, they replace or fix it. In the end, I people pay more for a Busse just to know that your getting a solid blade that has thier warranty.

For me its not the warranty. I got no response on where to send my money order when i got in on dmdc, so I got kicked back into the second run. I had no problem waiting months for my knife, but then it came without the kydex I ordered. I was again patient and have contacted them a couple times and no kydex for my dmdc months later- and zero response. Without sheath the dumb knife has never even left my house.

I own about 9 Busses and did not abuse them - this is no what I need knives for, but every time I use them for cutting - I have to resharpen. Problem is that I have too thin angle for INFI - 30 degree and not going to change it, this is my standard edge angle for all my knives. So I am looking forward to see for some abuse for this knives or even chopping (which is not my usual use for knives), but for cutting I switched to Dozier D2 and ZDP189.

Thanks, Vassili.

There is a new customer service rep for Scrap Yard Knives, her name is Renee. May I suggest trying to reach her via email and inquire about this sheath you have already paid for? Try info@scrapyardknives.com. I believe Renee checks email to this addy... Anybody got better info for this member? :)

That's very true. The Busse companies honor some ridiculous warranty claims. Batoning with a pipe wrench, smashing cinder blocks, shooting your blade with a rifle, etc. Regardless of their production methods, their warranty is without question the best out there.

Can GMC answer questions regarding your Chevy 1/2 ton

Completely off topic, but it depends on the question. Anyone who can answer a technical question about a GMC 1/2 ton can answer a question about a Chevy 1/2 ton. They're basically the same vehicle. :o

Are you back to claiming that your GW has a 30 degree angle on it??? I believe that you finally admitted to your mistake and that it is much closer to 20 degrees after much complaining that the very same GW you used for splitting hairs no longer acted like the "sharpened crowbar" that you've called Busse knives before, even though it sustained minimal edge damage at this 20 degree angled edge, and none of this is either chipping or breakage. May I suggest that you re-examine your other Busse's to see if you made the same edge angle mistake on them also?

Thanxx, Alex.

After fiddling for a week or so with Scrapyard and Swamprat, I finally got an email off to Scrapyard, and received a nice reply from Renee. The knife I wanted to buy, a SOD, is no longer being produced, and may never be available again.
She explained their business model, and while I am ok with it, I probably won't try again to buy one of their products.
I called another company, and ordered two RAT knives, which showed up promptly.

After accurate measurement of edge angle using hard wax on that Busse Game Warden - edge angle is 32 degree in the questioned area, BTW on Busse MT - factory edge angle is 35 degree. You may see details here.

Even with inaccurate measurement in soft clay it was 26 degree never less then 20 - check that thread you are refering to (message #26):

Original discussion on INFI edge angle is here:

I considered it as a customer request so you may see how it works.

Thanks, Vassili.

I have found Scrap Yard's service great. E-mailed Renee about delaying shipping on my SOD, and they were happy to comply. Great service.

Hasn't the pissing contest between nozh2002 and the Busse fans already taken place? YAY! Let's do it again.

So... Do you call up Chevy to ask questions about your GMC.....

No. But I have worked in customer service for 22 years. I don't word my policies in such a way to brush people the wrong way and detour them from wanting to ask questions. This is why I was hesitant on contacting them in the first place. Not like I wasn't eager to buy some product from them. I actually joined the Scrapyard Forum to learn more about the company and the product. When I visited the store and seen one knife listed for sale with no decription on how to buy, I checked with SwampRat. Signed up for the forum, and ran into another snag.

So when someone comes to BF for advice or to post their experiences with gear or a company, do you mock them by asking such an obviously condesending question?

It seems others much, much more firmiliar with SwampRat/Busse/ScrapYard etc. were also surprised with that policy.

99.9% of the replies to my post have been very helpful and greatly appreciated. I may still buy the DogFather LE if I can find one. I do not think I will hold my breath or search real hard. But from time to time take a quick look.
