I have not used my 31s yet. Has anyone? And have they experienced lock failure? Ive only had knives fail on me w spine whack test, but there was only one force applied. When cutting there counteracting actions.

I use my Large Micarta 31 at work. Never failed yet...but...ive used a Large PJ insingo 21 at work for years...never failed...im in construction...tell me again why I need a stronger jigglier lock?

I fully intended to press my Sm 31 into rotation when I ordered it but I decided to visit a fancy knife shop after I ordered it but before it was delivered (a 4 day window) and purchased a Sm Inkosi. So the 31 will not be leaving the house until I justify a role for it even if that role gets made up. Haha.

I think the jiggly issue is unique to your knife, and not what is really being discussed here. I am surprised you did not seek warranty on that.

Im just talking about the flex. ;) I fixed the side/side play. Jiggly flex. ;)

ETA: What is being discussed? I thought it was lockflex? And how easy it is to make that flex happen. And then someone brought in “lock failure” which isnt what is being discussed.

I have a few Sebenzas from Regular Sebenza Small all the way Large 25s and now just got a 31 large I do not find any significant difference in blade lock up, lock rock or wiggle in any of them, maybe I have been lucky but no complaints from me

Evidently, you're in the same boat as me. Since I haven't been keeping up with the thread and after realizing I may not know what to look for, I can only conclude that I am lacking the proper method to check for lock flex.

You lucky ducks!!! :D

My Large Regular is way solid in the lockup than both my 31’s.
This thread needs a photo to make it happier.

I think these two posts should be pinned at every new page in this thread.

Some people here seems to have an incredible ability to forget what is acutally beeng discussed and what issues the 31 displays.

I think that is going to be a bit hard to sort out.
Of the posters a few seem to have actual issues, but more the issue is they don't like the movement- there issue is comfort with the knife as opposed to worry of lock failure. This thread got them all looking for the movement, and many found some. I don't go looking for movement in my knives(has to come up in normal use), but once I find it there is no turning back. It will drive me nuts until I solve it. Which is why I don't go looking for it.
Not having a 31 yet, I have no idea if this would bother me or not-and some seem to be rock solid.

See my post earlier in the thread. Last month I handled two 31s with May 2020 birthdays that could pretty easily be made to flex/rock, with an audible clicking noise. I kept one and traded the other. I bought each one from different ADs and find it extremely unlikely that I just happened to get two lemons from two different sources. I think this is just something that's inherent to the ceramic ball interface, at least until they break in a bit. My Umnumzaan and Inkosi will rock as well, but it takes much more force. I would be very curious to see how the 31 lock rock compares to an Inkosi or Zaan brand new out of the box. I suspect that as the ceramic ball wears into the lock face the interface settles in and gets more secure. I still plan of keeping and using the 31 I hung on to and seeing how it compares to my Inkosi and Zaan after a few months.

Yeah. I thought by ‘jiggly’ you meant the side to side play you complained about. That seems to be a different issue to me, but I suppose jiggly is a loose term at best.

I was just exaggerating for dramatic effect. :D

Everything in this thread is getting so blown out of proportion and exaggerated that I thought I would throw out some exaggeration to fit in. Haha

Looks like the 31s, 21s, 25s have this not just the 31. So why pick only on the 31? Ive never checked any of my knives til I read this thread.

I have a small Sebenza made 9 years ago and it has no "flex" or "rock" and spine whacks fine. So does my TiLock :)

Strangely, my Ti-Lock was the only CRK knife whose lock I wore out, and it became actually “jiggly”, with major up/down lock-rock.

CRK replaced the spring and bronze dumbbell free of charge. Be aware that if you daily carry a Ti-lock, this may happen. In my case, the bronze dumbbell became worn and no longer sat firmly in the lock cavity.

I gave up on the idea of daily carrying a Ti-Lock after this, but still have the knife and carry it occasionally.
