Sebenza

Forums, youtube, reddit, instagram, facebook, etc. show me what some people think every day, I just love it! I agree with very few of your or their opinions, though! It's just so interesting! : )

I think my cold steel CTS-XHP 4" Talwar cuts noticeably better than my Sebenza did, was much much less expensive, came sharper from the factory, holds it's edge better, has better ergonomics and is easier to grip, is warmer to the touch, stronger, safer, has a super cool wave opening option if I so choose, has a much prettier blade finish, is deadlier, and is much more intimidating and BADASS! Made by our fellow human beings living in the same world that I do, Whom I've never met but hold in great respect, who are culturally different and very interesting and I will guess are good people and probably much less of an asshole than Chris Reeve : ) I also have an AUS8 5.5" monster that is even more awesome and only cost me $65!!? I Love these knives and will never sell them, but it's not exactly worth selling. I carry them rarely.

I sold my large plain 21 a long time ago. It was more luxurious, highly precise, impressive, better craftsmanship, better artistry, made in Idaho (by an old a** hole, which is actually pretty cool lol), extreme attention to detail, much much more expensive, more valuable (lost $30 selling it), made with sweet titanium alloy slabs, old school, historic, classic, highly classy, understated, simple, eleagent, sexy, beautiful, tactile, smoooth, interesting, user friendly, and friendly looking! I was definitely more proud of owning, using, and carrying it. I was happier to have it in my pocket, pull it out around or not around people, and use it. I carried it very often.

That being said I sold it because I don't like it that much anymore relative to the smorgasbord that is out there! It was nice but check out the world of custom knives on instagram, USN, and youtube people! I'm probably subscribed to 1000 people constantly feeding me beautiful pictures and videos! I appreciate the sebenza exactly for what it is and hold great respect for it. I bought it a long time ago, and now that I've been exposed to all of the "custom" knives that I've seen so far I'm just not interested anymore! Not in the slightest. For a long time the sebenza has been relatively boring, relatively uninspiring, and relatively unattractive to me personally. My mother's co worker when I was young was a beautiful art knife maker, I haven't even delved very deep into that level$$$ of knife making yet!

The talwar is clearly the better pocket knife of the two, but I'm a man that appreciates a bit of BEAUTY and LUXURY! So many people are so adverse to a little luxury...not me lol. I'll gladly take a seb over a Cold Steel if I don't think my life is on the line! Can't wait for my CKF Gratch to show up, now that's an even more beautiful, luxurious pocket knife for only $350! Every knife has it's upsides and downsides, right now I think I probably prefer the Gratch to the other two ; )

cross-reference from CRK forum. I'm keep insisting that the knives were fixed with different tightness.

Well, knowing Andrew Demko personally, I can assure you that he tightened both knives the same. And, he was obviously extremely surprised at how little weight it took to fail.

You can criticize the idea of the test and even the methodology. But, when you started impugning Andrew Demko's integrity you are way out of line.

All of this Cold Steel bashing is just adding insult to ninjary.

And I bet they're crying all the way to the bank about it. :)

Nothing wrong with the methodology... Which makes it worse... The knife's lock failed from barely pushing on it... I don't care for the cult around the Sebenza, but even I have to recognize something smells fishy when this is the first we ever hear of a slip-joint like lock-up on the Sebenza, after around 30 years of production...

So you think Cold Steel is above tampering with another company's knife? Perhaps a bit of demonstrable history is in order...

I can point to another Cold Steel comparison video, in a specialty closer to my own concerns (as a fan of daggers), where they compared their Tanto point design to a Gerber Mark II: There is no way Cold Steel's blunt Tanto point design will out-penetrate such a narrow pointy dagger as a Gerber Mark II, it simply isn't possible...: Yet the Tanto did go deeper by about 20-30% into the rifle magazine than the Gerber Mark II, for the same weight and height of drop...

I knew this could not be a fair test: When I looked closely at the tip of the tested Gerber Mark II in the video, you could see a good 1/8" of the point was grounded off into a rounded profile... I could not find the test later, but many of you will remember it. Look closely at the Mk II's point and it will say it all...

Man people are really invested in these knife companies and seem to take it as a personal insult if someones ideas differ from their own on a certain maker. Like some how a persons character is drastically changed if a certain knife is viewed in a less positive manner than they view it. A knife is a tool at heart its made to cut things. Carry what makes you happy and what does what you need it to do. If you have ever seen someone pull out a knife and thought the knife they had somehow added to or subtracted from their character perhaps you should re evaluate your priorities in what you think is important about a person. I joined these forums because i love knives all kinds of knives. Whether its a beautiful custom well outside my price range or a cheap chinese beater. This is a hobby that brings me happiness I hope I never let it get serious enough to me that it stresses me out.

So, Gaston, you have evidence that CS fakes its test videos... but you can't find that evidence.

This thread has definitely exposed the knife snobbery that inundates bf! I haven't been here long, but I've noticed how new folks are shunned away! Probably the reason for fewer members posting! And heaven forbid someone likes cold steel knives over Chris reeve knives! , which I do by the way! I've seen people ridiculed and bullied over their choice of knife, flashlight and the watch they wear! Usually by the same dozen members or so!

Talk about something smelling fishy....

I don't remember that video well enough to know that this is accurate, but isn't the belly (aka distance from point to a straight, not curved edge) longer on an Applegate than the forward edge (distance from tip to the meeting of the two grinds) of a tanto? That could have an effect on continued penetration.

Most the guys here have seen this exact same style thread/conversation for many years now. It's a broken record and getting old. So many ridiculous knife bashing tests have been debated.

Maybe so! But if we're going to bash the striders, hinderers and cold steels of the world, I would think a little crk bashing, especially with video evidence, is alright too? I mean 45lbs is 45 lbs right?

Ps. Crk's lock strength is the least of my worries! He just doesn't make knives that appeal to me! Benchmade and cold steel on the other hand have a direct link to my wallet!

All brands of knives get critiqued and defended in threads here. And in each of those threads, fanboys/haters get bent outta shape.

Spend more than a couple months here, and you will realize that.

Aw come on man. Watching fanboys/haters get bent outta shape is half the fun! :D

Especially since fanboyism requires you to check logic at the door and stretch definitions beyond recognition.

For the record, I'll still have a Sebenza or Mnandi in my pocket.

Same can be said of haters. Just depends on which side of the fence you're on.

I'd like to see Demko test Fanboy vs. Hater and see what comes out on top.

I'm pulling for Hater. I think that's a sign of staying power.

That's why I'm here with my bucket of popcorn; I've bought products from both CS and CRK, and I don't have a dog in this fight. I just enjoy watching the frothing loons go at each other. ;)

Particularly if its fanboyism of a brand you don't happen to like.
