"Seroiusly" is seriously trying my patience.

How exactly did I cheat the seller? And as a seller I've had to deal with the nightmare that is disputes, basically they side with the seller in almost all cases even postal service loses packages. I had a decent ammount of money tied up for way too long because a buyer thought I cheated them when Their countries customs held the package for too long. They are not a good company to work with, I would not work them if it wasn't what almost every seller on just about every forum insists on it as a service.

Man you have had some bad luck with pay pal I mean like the worst thank god I haven't ever had these problems with them they have always been fair in my dealing with them. And I've had a claim that the usps lost a package and they sided with me. Must be my lucky rabbits foot. You know that F&F is for skating pp fees which pays for the services they provide. And you all know that this seller isn't your friend or family or this wouldn't have happened so you dishonestly paid for a item not to pay the pp fe.

There are ways to explain and teach things in a positive manner without pointing the finger and making others feel worse while their already down.

Those ways leave no room for the necessary sanctimony. Welcome to BFC - you'll find that most try to be nice and helpful. The misuse of PayPal is a huge sore spot for some, myself included, but the piling on isn't necessary.

Group therapy has it's advantages.

You didn't cheat the seller. You cheated yourself and you cheated us, you asked for our advice while performing poorly using known failed techniques. Boo...

I've read your comment a couple times, still not making much sense of it.

Very necessary actually.

Reason is, I am not sure how many of these threads need to be posted before everyone realizes the difference between G&S and F&F.

Does the OP know anything about the seller?
Is he anything more then a name on a screen on an internet forum?

The OP just sent someone he doesn't know $ as a gift for technically nothing.
Interesting that after doing something that (pick a word) you would look for help from the community or the Mods.

Do yourself a favour, grow up.....Think about what it is that you are doing, and what you know about the people you are sending $ to, and the way you're doing it.

I will never understand why people are so eager to provide sympathy for stupidity. It doesn't solve the problem.....

Paypal deserves the 2.9% they ask for their service just like you deserve whatever you make at your job.
They provide an easy to use and incredibly safe service for us to buy things from PEOPLE WE DON'T KNOW on the INTERNET.

i care less about the money aspect and more about the integrity of the forums and the members who use it.

Sir, you don't care about integrity. You used a payment method not consistent with the type of transaction you were part of. You sent that money as a gift. There is a payment method for buying goods (knife) and you chose to not use that method. Most likely to avoid paying the fee or getting a slightly better deal.

You were ripped off whilst cheating. I say good day, sir. Good day, sir.

While the OP wasn't right or smart to pay with gift, the real issue here is the knife that he paid for hasn't been shipped. Not going to blame the victim here.

I have done a lot of buying and selling on this forum and I would say that 3/4 of the time once the deal is done there is no communication back to me.

I send money, no response from the seller, 4 days later I receive a package. I email the seller to say that it arrived, no return email.

OR I sell an item, ship it, email the tracking information, never hear a word from the buyer.

I don't know why that is and I would prefer a reasonable amount of communication, but just because there is no communication is not a red flag that something is wrong.

I sold an item last week. The buyer sent payment Wednesday but I worked a very long day Wednesday and didn't check my email until Thursday. The buyer was concerned that he had not heard from me in 24 hours. I apologized and told him I would get the package in the mail Friday or Saturday. Friday I worked another very long day and counted on being able to get up Saturday and get to the post office. Well Saturday I was sick and couldn't bear to get up and hunt for boxes and so forth. Fortunately we have on post office here open until 2:00 Saturday so I was finally able to drag myself out of bed at 12:30 to find the item, wrap the package and get to the post office. I was still hurting and barely able to function but I got to the post office with 15 minutes to spare and mailed the package.

I normally don't communicate much. I send payment via goods & services, confirm my address in an email, and then I wait until the knife shows up. I do an inspection, so far every one has been as described. I send an email letting the seller know I got it and I'm leaving positive feedback, then I leave positive feedback and the transaction is done. Unless there's an issue I don't see a need for a bunch of communication about a sale.

Back on topic, the lesson for the ten thousandth time is to pay via goods and services. It's 2.9% + 30 cents. That's less than $6 for a $175 knife and it protects the buyer. If a buyer sends a gift and gets scammed, that's on the buyer for sending a gift. If spending an extra $5 breaks the bank, maybe the best course of action is to reconsider the purchase. I hope more people will see this thread and learn to stop using Paypal gift for transactions.

In the short time I've been reading this forum I've seen tons of sales threads asking buyers to use friends and family or add X percent to sales price-tons.

It is sanctimonious hypocrisy to come down on this one member who only followed the herd.

Sellers: Build the wee little fee into your price and stop asking for f&f.

Forum: Discourage the practice of soliciting f&f.

Buyers: Just say no.

^^^^ Yup! When I see 'net to me', request for F&F or any of that **** I pass immediately.
Not really hypocrisy to come down on one member as we have seen this countless times.
Don't ask for F&F and don't pay that way.

Thread Drift about "Net to Me"- I tried to buy a $500 knife and the Seller wanted $500 Net except he wouldn't tell me What that meant in real dollars. I had to assume he meant 2.9% + 30 cents, Do the math and ask if that's what he meant. It was a real put off and even though I said "I'll Take It" I just moved on.

^^^ YUP!!!
Happened to me also and I would've passed, as I normally do.....but my son really wanted the knife....a $50 Knockout.
Net to me was stated in the sales thread......ugh, but ok.
I added $1.50 and sent payment G&S.......I got 3 e mails from the seller demanding the 29 cents I owed him. WHAT???
Just state the price you want and forget the @$&;"/ net to me!!!

I believe it is a put-off too. Almost everybody uses paypal, the seller should just build that into his price and give one price. That's what I do. If you say "net to me" and the buyer misses a bit on the calculation, you can just eat the difference. I've listed items for lets say $100 and I get offers of $80 to $90. This is a lot different than what I would have gotten net if someone had sent $100 paypal, so just assume you will sometimes get less than you are asking.

I'm surprised that this forum is still allowing this practice of asking for net payments since as I understand it this is violating paypal policies. Paypal could get wise to this and take legal action against this site for condoning it. The knife market has gotten so cutthroat that people are all about the profit. I visit forums for many other types of hobbies and none of them do this so it would be real easy for paypal to focus legal attention on knife sales websites.

I had a seller refuse to send a knife because i was short $1.60 on my "net" on a $250 knife.

If someone asks net or for FF I move on every time now.
