Shave of the day?

Hah I used my Slim today, and got a wonderful shave. It feels so good to have all my gear again. I need to set up my photo gear and start taking pictures again, I also still need to find that New Standard razor too. I think I have a lead on a place that is suppose to have a bunch of old razors so I am heading there tomorrow with fingers crossed.

Mark, That Colgate soap tube you show is elegant and a useful travel item I'm sure. They hard to come by?

Persisted with the Cella and got a fine result, mainly from a)decreasing the amount used b)increasing the water volume. This tub will last until 2044 at this rate:D:thumbup:

You are not far wrong about eating the stuff, marzipan is a big favourite sweet of mine. Mind you, the Taylor Almond smells even stronger....

...

I found it on eBay. In fact, I just picked up 3 more today. Only one is a Colgate, but I got them all from the same seller, so with combined shipping the total was $14.97 for all 3 shipped. I'll post some pics when they arrive.

I love shave sticks so these tins are just perfect! :D

Search ebay for "shave stick", "vintage shave stick", and "vintage shaving stick". They are often overpriced, but just keep your eyes open.

I will PM email you a link to a really nice one I am watching now...

Preshave:Hot shower
Brush: Fendrihan Super Badger
Soap: Porarso Cream
Razor: 1921 Gillette Single Ring
Blade: IP Red
Aftershave: Old Spice Classic

I am still fighting with the harder water here, no problems making lather, but when I rinse I get balls of soap sticking to my face. I have resorted to not keeping the sink full of water and rinsing the razor and my face with fresh tap water each time. Todays shave was nice, I had a 3 day growth going on and I felt the open comb was the way to go. Well at first i grabbed the Slim and started a stroke with it because I thought I had a blade in it, but oncw I realized I had taken it out to be replaced I switched to the Single Ring. I did a four pass shave and got a DFS without trying and no need to do any touch ups:thumbup: I finished up with some Old Spice Classic, because I just don't like the feel of the balms on these hot muggy days, I find the splash refeshing in comparison.

I think tomorrow after I do a bit of work on my latest knife project I am going to clean and polish all my razors and take an updated picture of my gear just for the heck of it. I also need to get caught up on some SOTD pictures. I don't know about others but I really enjoy seeing pictures with the SOTD posts that markksr does.

This morning I got off my lazy butt and shaved off a couple of days growth. The thought of shaving with the hard water is taking all the fun out of shaving lately:mad: Today I am picking up some distilled water for tomorrows shave to see if that helps. Right now when I rinse I get soap balls stuck to my face and they clog up the razor and make the head stick to my face, it is really annoying.

Preshave:Hot shower
Brush: TGN Silver Tip (AKA the Omega refit.)
Soap: Porarso Cream
Razor: Gillette Red Tip
Blade: IP Red
Aftershave: Old Spice Classic

Despite the hard water I got a great shave, and I still can't get over how much more aggressive the Red Tip is compared to the 40s Super Speed I have. I would put it near a 7 on my Slim.

This is the razor that Kohai999 sent me, and I am loving it. I came to me looking a little dull and I just assumed that it was a user. Well today I decided to give it a little TLC to see if it would help combat the water issues and the razors sticking to my face. Within 5 minutes using a little Peek non abrasive polish this thing was sparkling like the gem that it really is, I can't say thank you enough to Kohai999 for letting me experience the shave this razor gives:thumbup:

Just started my second week using a Dovo 6/8 straight razor. I finally made it through a complete shave, WTG, without a nick OR razor burn--which is more a testament to luck than to ability. There is definitely a sense of satisfaction I get from shaving with a straight razor that I never got from my old multi-blade razor. When I finish I feel like I've earned that aftershave!

Preshave: Hot bath with coffee & newspaper followed by a hot towel and a generous application of homemade shaving oil.
Strop: Illinois #827, 10-15 strokes on linen followed by 20-30 on the leather
Brush: Full Volume Pure Badger
Soap: Colonel Conk's Almond Fragrance
Razor: Dovo 6/8 full hollow straight razor
Aftershave: Truefitt & Hill West Indian Lime Aftershave Balm

Who knew shaving could be so much fun! :D

My Own Blend Aftershave

My second day using this new razor and I am very impressed. Two days of fantastic shaves.

Merkur 41 Open Comb. Just got this and I notice its colour is very different from the other Merkurs I have: Travelling razor, 39 Long Barber Pole, 34. They all seem chrome plated whereas this looks more 'yellow' as in silver plate. It's a small razor-which I don't mind, but it is less aggressive than I expected, but this could be technique, never used an open comb before.

Blade. Merkur's free sample. These blades are OK but a bit mild, I wouldn't buy them.

Brush Omega Boar

Cella Almond. after initial disappointment this is turning into an exceptional lather, possibly the best.

No nicks or cuts, smooth but could be closer. I might buy some aftershave (suggestions please..) as the weather is too hot for balms.

A beautiful razor! The Merkur 1904 is nickel plated while the others are chrome. Nickel often has a yellowish tinge to it.

When it gets really hot here in Florida, I love the Lime Sec and Citrus Musk by Pinaud just for the refreshing lime scent, they are just alcohol splashes though. I don't think they contain any of the skin "goodies" that some people look for.

Then there is always Aqua Velve Classic Ice Blue, a nice dose of menthol to cool you off on a hot day and it smells good in a classic way. Any other menthol containing AS will work well in the heat also.

Thanks for the info Mark! It is a beautiful razor and has fine detailing on the handle, Old School in the right way.

Something citrus smelling sounds right, menthol is not my thing.

Preshave:Hot shower
Brush: Fendrihan Silvertip Badger
Soap: Nivea For Men Shave Cream
Razor: Frankenrazor $0s Style gillette Super Speed
Blade: Wilkinson Sword
Aftershave: The Genleman's Refinery

Didn't post yesterday because it was the exact same shave, but I just use distiled water instead. Today I tried a half and half mix of distiled and tap water, it worked but not as well as just distiled, so today I am setting up the dehumidifier to bottle the water.

The first time I tried the Wilkinson blades they were smooth and sharp, not as nice as the IP Reds but good all the same. Today the one I put in was rough and not smooth at all. Bad enough that I didn't bother doing any touch ups and felt the need for a more mild AS Balm instead of a splash.

My Wife and Son got me an Edwin Jagger Double Edge, a badger hair brush, and some Taylor of Old Bond Street sandalwood shaving cream for Father's Day! So far I'm impressed with this setup.
