Preparation: Hot shower
Lather: Golddachs
Brush: Merkur Futur-style
Razor: Merkur Futur (f/3.5)
Blade: Feather
Aftershave: Cold water rinse and alcohol splash
The reason I note this shave is that this was the second shave on this Feather blade. I customarily take two shaves on the first edge of a double-edge blade, then take two shaves on the second edge. Midway through one side of face, I rinsed the blade quickly and suddenly what had been a super-smooth-shaving blade was suddenly a tug-of-war! How could a quick rinse do that? Then, I realized that in the course of rinsing, I had also changed edges. Remember, the second edge of this blade had not yet been used. When I switched back, all was well again. I tried the second edge again and tug tug tug. I switched back to the first edge and I finished up a great shave.
So, even Feather has a bad edge every now and then.
Obviously, I will not use that second edge, right? No. I'll try it again tomorrow morning. Am I expecting the magic blade fairy to sharpen it overnight? No. I flipped the blade over in the razor. I have found that one should not condemn a blade without trying to flip it over as often a tugboat turns into a smooth-sailer if you just flip it over.
