Shirogorov neon pivot - Deal Problem

K KM013070 , there is one problem here (and just one) that is causing all of this drama: That problem is your failure to take responsibility for your actions. The problem has nothing to do with the knife. It could have just as easily been a car that backfires. You take something apart, or try to, and put it back together incorrectly and now the engine catches fire. That is not Ford's fault. It is YOUR fault.

I actually think that you understand and accept this concept. However, I also think that you have dug your heels in and feel that backing off your position makes you look like an idiot. Swallow your tender pride and own your mistake. We are all idiots from time to time. What separates us from the full-time idiots is how we respond to those times when we are embarrassed by our own short-sightedness. Do the right thing here. No more excuses, no more delays, no more redirecting. You know what is right. In your heart and in your head, you know what you need to do. Take that step. Things will be ok.

You've had numerous members explain, reason with you that your PayPal claim is ridiculous and yet you still fail to acknowledge that.

Quite honestly I believe that you're fully aware of what your doing but yet you still keep posting like you don't understand what you're doing is wrong... this has turned into a game for you.

Personally I've grown tired of your charade so let me be blunt... if you continue with your PayPal claim and PayPal rules in your favor, your time on Bladeforums will come to an end.

That is not the best example. I didn't alter anything. Other than the tool marks it's in the same state as it arrived, with a seized pivot. I feel like I was sold something with an issue. Obviously the community feels I'm wrong in my decision to want to return it. Instead of hating me, why has nobody suggested a company that can remove/repair the pivot without compromising the functionality or integrity of the knife. Heating or boiling doesn't seem like the correct way. I'm not against retracting PP at the overwhelming requests of the community if somebody knows of a company in the U.S. that can fix it correctly. I only want a product I can service the way it was designed. It's not been my intention either to accuse the seller of known wrong doing, it's only what it feels like to me. I'm also sorry for causing such discourse in the community. Within the animosity the topic has created, I have valued some comments, especially what's been said about the purchase of certain preowned items.

looking for some advice. I sold a neon to a member over a month ago. They just contacted me and sent a PayPal claim asking for money because they cannot remove the pivot. They are claiming that my claim in the selling of the knife that it was like brand new is false. I bought this knife brand new, carried it a few times and never took it apart or tried. I understand the smooth backside of shirogorov pivots are problems. Does anyone have any input? I am afraid that PayPal will just side with the buyer, and they will get to keep the knife and get their money back if I escalate. Am I being out of line by being upset?

I'm really sorry that you've had the misfortune of dealing with one of the worst offender's of Ethics 101, I've witnessed during my tenure here. Could you please post this persons personal information here (i.e. email/shipping address), so that other honest people in the knife community won't have the same misfortune of falling victim to this person?

I am the buyer. This is my first time having an issue with an item purchased through BF and hope I'm posting this reply in the correct place. It was my intro into the Shiro brand and was initially pleased how it lived up to the hype. I then purchased A Hati from a different BF member to add to the collection. I wanted to put lanyards on both Shiro's so I started with the Hati first. Everything went perfect from pivot removal to reassemble. But when attempting it on the Neon, the pivot would just spin and not loosen. In liking the Hati size better I decided to sell the Neon and look for another Hati. During this time I was combing BF for ideas on how to solve the pivot issue so my buyer would not have the same issue. Many seemed too severe and I was not willing to take that chance. A video suggested using the heat from a hairdryer which seemed the least invasive. It didn't work. As emails started coming in from members considering to purchase I disclosed to them the seized pivot. Not one person was willing to purchase knowing this. I contacted the seller and removed the sale to not waste other members time. He was kind enough to provide a link of a possible solution but it doesn't work on the backspacer version. At this point I felt contacting PP was the best solution. Now yes, I did mark the scale in an attempt to free the pivot (easy to do in this situation). I was willing to sell it for less because of that. But not resell it with a seized pivot. Let's be open here, a knifenut doesn't buy something at this level as a "need" purchase. It is purely a "want" purchase. And I would think most people would want it to fully function flawlessly. Also where catch, release, trade, etc is a real aspect of BF, items with issue/s can have a negative effect on the pre-owned market.

^ Either the left side in your brain (which allows one the ability you to rationalize simple situations), is defective, or you're just plain too stupid to know any better. Either way- your actions here are pathetic, & inexcusable.:thumbsdown:

Why not contact one of the members here that deal with knives quite alot? Maybe Razoredge or such that is probably overqualified to do this?
Either way, you would only be doing this because you feel that the pivot SHOULDN'T be seized and that is not the case..It was intentional. You only want to prove that it CAN be taken down which seems to be a moot point at this juncture. It has nothing to do with your claim other than your ignorance to what Shirogorov's intent was.

Shirogorov has a forum on USN. They recommend putting the pivot in hot water to soften the thread locker so the pivot can be taken apart.
From what you have written, it doesn’t appear you’ve tried any suggested method already suggested. Based on that, it’s very clear the direction you are taking.

Btw, for future reference, this is how you install a lanyard that doesn't want to go in.

Clearly the community feels I'm wrong in my claim so obviously I will do what is overwhelmingly requested. I will close the case with PP. I will try to recognize where I went wrong and hope to regain some respect with the members of BF. I will gladly research any avenue of a repairer somebody can provide

K KM013070 . I will not accept the original offer. That was made as I was surprised by all of this and before I knew other facts such as you tried to sell yourself.. Actually when I originally gave you that offer, you basically laughed and insulted me and blamed me for the scratches in a pretty negative way. I can supply that email if you have forgotten. Now you want to me accept that very same offer? I hate confrontation but I am so upset pnoint the facts everything I am no way going to accept an offer that I was laughed at initially.

Try contacting Millit knives if you would like to find a good company to fix the m sure the can fix scratched and remove the pivots as once again this is not a pivot issue, rather patience and tools to remove the pivot without damaging.

I've tried a blowdryer but not boiling. I guess I'll try that

Whether or not that company exists or whether or not someone suggests one to you is completely separate from, and irrelevant to, your PP claim. The two are mutually exclusive. And you know it too.

More good comments. I just want to mention though that I never got it apart. And I'm not looking for recourse because I marked it. That can happen by just putting it into the pocket. I don't agree though about not taking down a knife. At the very least it's nice to clean and see design choices. I'd say it's part of the hobby.

Then breaking the knife and accepting responsibility have to be part of the hobby too.

A free spinning pivot should be a commonly known problem. Part of the hobby is an occasional expensive lesson.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but Shirogorov has a warranty service. I know because I've used it. I didn't buy from Recon 1 either.
If the buyer was honest he'd have gone this route - but there was nothing wrong with the knife to begin with, and there's nothing wrong with it now. I suppose you could send the knife off to ask them to put a friggin' lanyard on, but that's hardly warranty work!

A blow dryer won’t cut it. I’ve read where people put a knife in the oven at 200, personally, I’ve never attempted that. The idea is that the pivot area needs to be hot enough to soften the thread locker. Hence, hot water. The hot water will get to the pivot without damaging any part of the knife. Use an eraser on the smooth part of the pivot body to bind it after it’s been heated up

You didn’t alter anything?? The damage shown in your pics was NOT there when the knife was sold to you. Hence, YOU altered that knife by your hand.
The pivot is NOT the issue......the damage YOU CAUSED IS the issue. Why you cannot own up to this is beyond me......not really, but I guess taking responsibility for your screw up is beyond you.

Stupid!

If you don't have a soldering iron to touch to the pivot screw;

Heat up a fork on the stove. Touch one of its now hot tines to the pivot screw to melt threadlocker.

Remember to hold the back of the pivot (flat side) with a rubber glove or band (better than eraser). Wait until pivot is cool enough not to melt the rubber. (Threadlocker shouldn't have rehardened yet)

If the pivot is seized (please explain what you consider "seized" as I'm guessing it deviates from what the rest of us think) why were you selling it as:
'17 Shirogorov Neon Lite with S90V blade. Titanium backspacer. Box, papers, cloth(not pictured) included. 2nd owner. Was like new until I snail trailed presentation side (see pic) so can't display with others. Otherwise flips fast on MRBS, centered blade, and factory unsharpened edge. Great EDC in areas where Hati (my fav) might be too much.
This hardly sounds like an inoperable knife. You've already told us earlier in this thread you couldn't sell it for your asking price because you told the buyer you had problems taking it apart. You keep changing your story, and it's past the point of pathetic. The knife is serviceable, just not by you at this point.
