Show me your Blur!

I take it you were watching from the back of the audience too? :grumpy:
I've been blessed enough to have some money to throw at knives but I'm no Saudi prince. Was not me who has been sucking up the market. The problem is that if this person wants to make a profit there still has to be some market. If they buy up every single one then people move on and since there is a finite supply the market will eventually break. I'll have to get my brother in to this. He is an economist and I'm sure would find this to be an interesting study in demand elasticity. Maybe he can make a market forecast of the price at which, if any, we can expect this madness to end! :D

Forget about eBay, unless you're a "Saudi Prince":D

Your best bet is to throw out a "WTB/WTT"...........AND PRAY!

Congrats on snagging the Blue, Jim! Good score.

Dan

Thanks!

People are going to have to start narcotics trafficking to afford these!

If that's what it takes, I might not be getting another any time soon but I hear ya! Robbing banks? Pyramid schemes? No, scratch those too, I'll stick to selling off what I have to get the other ones I want. Might wait a little until people start getting their tax refunds back. It's tough out there in the sale forum (for me) right now.

Hopefully you didn't have to pay $300! BTW I wish I had your connections. :p

Nowhere near that much. I'm glad my connections came through. Got a couple Shallots I was looking for too, but this isn't the Show Me Your Shallot thread haha. ;)

Yea I picked a very wrong time apparently to get into collecting these things. :( All of a sudden prices have gone through the roof for any that are limited runs. In looking back just a few months ago they were still pretty reasonable but now it's gotten nuts!

Few questions. First, why would you do something like this to what is for some of us, a very collectible item? Second (and most important), how do you figure this is "improved"? How is this still considered "new"? And finally, ruin it and then ask $135 + shipping???? I notice no one has jumped on it at all yet..........

Just saddens me to see this happen to a Gray. :(

I've been seeing quite a few of these "improved" blurs turn up, I don't understand why you need that when you have speedsafe

I started collection these over a year ago, but just certain models at first. Mostly S60V Blem, ZDP-189, SG2, I passed on a lot of Blurs I should have grabbed (at their fair prices), and some pretty rare ones. Sometimes I lay awake in bed thinking about the blurs I could have had... For the time being I stopped buying Blurs, not good to buy when the market is so high.

Wondering when the market will cool off myself? :( In the mean time I've kind of been grabbing them when I run across them and my credit card knows it.

I regret not getting an SG2 Blur. I did get an S30V one - neat. Here is my oldest pair of Onions - my once red Blur and once green Scallion. My DAM Leek is there - and my only Spydie, too.

The roller tape on that Blur is slick. It has fuzzed a bunch of my pockets over the years.

No it doesn't really work that way. You kind of need the blade to go with the handle since Kershaw doesn't supply new blades. :) If I wanted just a gray for the handle I could take one of my blacks and get it stripped and anodized. Unless you want a frankinblur, mixing and matching blades to handles isn't something most collectors do. :)

Is it easy to strip the black off a blur?
I am thinking about buying a s30v blem from the kershaw guy
I don't like the black handle though, so I was thinking about buying one of the new OD green blurs and switching out the handles with the blade
I'm not a collector, so I wouldn't really care too much

Easiest if you send it to an anodizer which I've actually looked into but don't have enough pieces just yet to make it economically worth it. You can however use Greased Lightening to strip the old color off of anything anodized. Haven't tried it myself however so your results may vary. I have used oven cleaner to strip anodizing off aluminum before however and it is pretty harsh and you have to watch for pitting.

The S30V with either the desert sand or olive handles sounds like a nice combination. I'd actually like to see Kershaw put them out like that now or with the CPM 154 blade.

Picked up this lovely lady yesterday:

The blur was my favorite pocket knife for the longest time, but got booted by a new one I had gotten a year or so ago. I gave away the blur I had (wal-mart serrated tanto version) andalways regretted it. Finally rectified that yesterday, and got a pretty sweet one to replace it. Not the fanciest or rarest, but more than enough for my needs.

I just got a black/satin S30V plain edge as well. It's a great-looking knife, in my opinion it's about the best looking blur out there if you're just going to have one instead of collecting them all. In some ways it reminds me of the 551 griptillian, but narrower (better carry), better steel, and wicked fast deployment. The deep belly of the blade and handle are perfectly matched aesthetically. It's one of those knives you look at and everything about it "just works."

Dumb question inbound. Are the Walmart Blurs any different than others (same item number)? I don't want to send guys there to get one if they are any less than a normal Blur.
