My latest acquisition is a Barung Semenanjung (i.e. Peninsular Malaysia Barung).
It's not a Barung Sabah (i.e. Barung Bidak Bajau or Sabah Barung or East Malaysia Barung).
And it's not a Barung Moro (i.e. Moro Barung or Southern Philippines Barong).
16 3/8" OAL, 11 1/8" blade, 5 1/4" handle, 2 3/8" width at the widest, ~ 3/16" thick at the thickest and ~ 1/12" thick at the tang with inverse distal tapered profile.
It was applied to a triple quench heat treatment process.
And since it's a field grade Barung so it was purposely made to have a hammer and coarse grind finish.
It's O'Katz Handmade from a piece of antiquated Solihull Land Rover 5160 (pre India and Brazil production) leaf spring steel.
Handle is made from a local Sepetir wood (i.e. Pseudosindora palustris).
The Peninsular Barung passed the brass rod test and a Cengal wood chopping test.
The first one also passed the nail cutting test and the tip drop on the concrete floor test.
I didn't do that to this second one because I consider it as rather abusive!
