Been meaning to post my walnut handled edmonson chopper....just bought another edmondson with micarta handle from a fellow forumite

These two are beasts...both about 10" long blades, walnut one about .27 thick and the micarta one is a stout .33!

very impressive quality and well balanced!

regards J

My latest acquisition is a Barung Semenanjung (i.e. Peninsular Malaysia Barung).
It's not a Barung Sabah (i.e. Barung Bidak Bajau or Sabah Barung or East Malaysia Barung).
And it's not a Barung Moro (i.e. Moro Barung or Southern Philippines Barong).

16 3/8" OAL, 11 1/8" blade, 5 1/4" handle, 2 3/8" width at the widest, ~ 3/16" thick at the thickest and ~ 1/12" thick at the tang with inverse distal tapered profile.
It was applied to a triple quench heat treatment process.
And since it's a field grade Barung so it was purposely made to have a hammer and coarse grind finish.

It's O'Katz Handmade from a piece of antiquated Solihull Land Rover 5160 (pre India and Brazil production) leaf spring steel.

Handle is made from a local Sepetir wood (i.e. Pseudosindora palustris).
The Peninsular Barung passed the brass rod test and a Cengal wood chopping test.
The first one also passed the nail cutting test and the tip drop on the concrete floor test.
I didn't do that to this second one because I consider it as rather abusive!

Very nice Barong Semenanjung Pak! Really am digging that inverse distal taper.

Nice, Scott !
I guess the rumors about an S7 shortage are unfounded. :D
How long, how thick is it ?

Doug

Haven't heard anything about a shortage of S7 Doug. The bolo is 15" overall with a 10" blade. Blade is 1 7/8" wide near the point, 1/4" thick.

This is my Phillip Patton 12 inch blade W2 bowie. I have not used it yet but I guess it would qualify!

In Belgium I recovered a little Sam as I like...:D

13" 3/8 blade 27.14 for the Steel...

WOW, do I ever LOVE that Lurquin piece!

So very encouraging to see that this thread continues to grow. I've always felt that camp knives were an under-appreciated genre, but maybe they are not so under-appreciated after all.

Good stuff guys.

I started this thread three years ago and I can't believe it is still going. Thanks to all who have contributed. Here are a couple of mine from forum member Joe Hoover.

Here's one I finished last weekend. The blade is about 12" and 5/16" at the guard with a strong distal taper. More like a short sword but with some heft.

That looks killer Stuart. Working out that hamon probably used a few strips of sandpaper:),

That is beautiful Stuart! l've been wanting to make somewhat of a similar style and now you've got my blood and imagination flowing! If mine came out half as nice as yours I will be thrilled. Great work bro. I love every detail of this blade especially the sweet hamon. So wish I could see this in person.
You're the man.
Mike
