Show Me Your....Sub Hilts!!!

Marcel --three thumbs up on your D-guard sub hilt contributions-- is Roger Bergh still with us and working his craft? --Steve

Yes Roger is alive and kicking up north in Sweden. Here is his website: www.rogerbergh.com

To be clear these aren't mine, I do know where a couple of them went to, although I don't know if he still owns them. I know I would.:thumbup:

I LOVE Sub-Hilts, but don't own any, YET.

This thread is amazing!! Keep 'em coming.

Here's a subhilt I forgot I had, along with an accompanying chute knife, both by Steve Gatlin, who was named Best New Maker at Blade 2008. The image was made by Coop, obviously, for Steve Gatlin's site. I had purchased the subhilt and accidentally came across the chute later, and bought it as well - how could I pass up owning both!!??

Really enjoying this thread. Some great work being shared! Here is one I like a lot, and had the opportunity to handle before Don shipped it off to its new owner. I think this was Don's first subhilt made?

Rob, this is a great thread. Lot of find knives shown by all. Thanks!

Thanks Joe, that was the first and a large one! Oops, this was the second sub-hilt.

I am posting these for David. He may come in later and give the specs and particulars on each of them. I did do the sheath on each.

For whatever reason, none of his were posted, by the PATRIARCH of subhilt fighters, who has to be Bob Loveless. Let's set the tone:

And, of course Dietmar Kressler does it with a single bar of stock.

Jason Knight is deserving of praise:

Schuyler Lovestrand takes it to another level:

And lastly, my own personal contribution and sole subhilt I own nowadays, is this INCREDIBLE FOLDING subhilt, by Ce Sun

There, that's ten--the max allowed in a single post. <smile>

Thanks, Paul.

The larger knife has Delbert Ealy damascus in ladder pattern for the blade, and Del's "Thunderstorm II" for the fittings. The handle is African blackwood. Blade is 10" long. This was an order, and I'm really tickled that my customer wanted a sheath.

The smaller knife is a new one. I decided to have Paul sheath it along with the order. The blade is CPM154, about 7 1/2" long. Fittings are 416. Handle is stabilized afzelia burl.

Here are a couple more pictures showing the full sheaths with the knives in them, and a close up of the damascus guard.

David

I haven't any idea how to respond to this thread - I'm overwhelmed!

Coop, the one and only subhilt that you kept, what can be said but - WOWWIE!!

Here's a larger photo of that beautiful Russ Andrews sub-hilt and a few others I had in my files:

Certainly a stark difference between the two D'Holder subhilts. One is just a bit too over the top, in my opinion. And the blade just isn't as catchy as pretty much any of the other subhilts I see here.

Here's an Edmund Davidson Sub-hilt. Edmund introduced this masterpiece at the last Guild Show. Jere Davidson and Linda Karst Stone contributed as did Eric Eggly and David Darom (I believe) in creating the beautiful image.

How could I have forgotten this amazing creation of Edmund Davidson?
"Overkill" was finished in 2008, was one of Edmund's major
knife art projects for that year and is also one of the full page illustrations
in my next book...
Overall length 17 1/2” (440 mm), blade length 10 1/2” (267 mm).

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)
