PAUL! You have some great #15s, my friend! I never even knew GEC made a Scout in red rust bone.

Another #15 mandala! :) WOW Paul, that is a sweet bunch! Congrats! If that Rust Red Scout ever looks at ya funny, you know where to send it :)

Thanks David, you inspired that picture:thumbup: You will be the one I contact if the Rust Red Scout needs a new home:)

Thanks Perry, I had the Nifebrite Scout as well but unfortunately parted with it:o

Paul's got game today!

Bob, I'm riding the coattails of my Irish;) I fear Saturday night and will be rubbing the TC off the bolster of my lucky knife hoping for another victory---we will be entering the land of GIANTS:eek:

I just received 2 # 15's, both 2015 and from the dealer's most recent shipment. One is a single blade Sheepsfoot, the other is a 2 blade: Sheepsfoot & Pen.
I have read things like "This most recent run of # 15's is one of the best ever by GEC", etc. However i am not overly impressed with these 2 knives. I have about 30 GEC knives for comparison. The 'bad' part is the edge grind: uneven, obtuse, about 45 degrees per side and not finished all the way to the tip and dull. A Sheepsfoot is the easiest blade to sharpen and i will fix these edges. My disappointment is that whoever at GEC did the edge grinds did not care enough about these knives to pay attention and do a good job.
The other slightly odd feature is that the pull for both Sheepsfoot blades is almost too soft. I would not want it to be any softer as then it would come off the fully open position far too easily.
Based on these 2 knives i would say that the current run of #15's is not one of GEC's best efforts.

Joe I can unfortunately confirm what you say. I got a single SF and it was just about perfect with exception of the blade grind sort of typical GEC grind easy fix. I was pretty impressed. However, I got a 2 blade and the SF pull is very soft as you say (I Have no other GEC like this one to compare it to but maybe a 3 pull at best) just not like my other 15s which are just about perfect. A little dissapointed with this antique yellow jigged bone SF/Pen combo and the SF blade pull. Everything else on these is typical GEC high quality. Anyone else get a too soft pull SF?

I totally agree with this. Aesthetically, the knives from this run of 15's are great, but I've noticed the walk and talk falls short and does not compare at all to 15's from previous runs. Both my 15's and TC's from this run are lazy. I actually think the scramble to satisfy the recent GEC feeding frenzy has maybe hurt quality a bit? First, with the cosmetic issues of the 77 Barlows, and now, the first 15's I've ever handled with lazy snaps.

My Antique yellow and Nifebrite had good walk and talk. The Rust Red, not so much. Half and full stops were good, but half to close had no snap. I am really having to work it. It's better, but still not what one would expect.

Edit to add: My TC Barlow is a lighter pull than any of the Huckleberry's. Any one else notice this?

Fortunately ALL my TCs singles and doubles are snappy and not a one is lazy. My issue is with the current run of 15s and not all just a couple.

I guess I should elaborate just a little bit. To call the TC's from this run lazy is probably a little misleading. It would be more accurate to say "lazier" than previous runs. I just took a closer look and compared my TC's from the 2013 run and the walk and talk on those are just incredible. Most of my TC's from this run have decent snap, just not quite as good as compared to my 2013 TC's. One IS a bit lazy and I suspect if I oiled and cleaned the joint, it would bring new life to it. On the other hand, all of my 15's from this run could be called lazy, as none of them snap shut from half stop and need an extra little nudge at 3/4 of the way to close. I suspect some oil and cleaning would remedy this a bit too, but regardless, not up to the standards of the 2013 #15's. I just sold a 2013 #15 Spear 2b the other day on the exchange and before packing it up inspected it and was sad to see it go because the walk and talk was just so incredible on it...
