Show off your 15's

My red micarta came today. It is so well done. I don’t know if others would call the pull light but it’s perfect for me. Fit and finish is amazing. Really, this is like getting a Northwoods Lincoln with a flat grind for $65. What’s not to love?

Pardon my ignorance, does anyone know what "CAR" on the backside tang stands for?

That's not what the cleaning lady told me ;) Considering GEC has recently done a run of 500 clip point of Chestnut Peach Seed jigged bones and GEC "almost never" does the same run twice, tis pretty unlikely.

It's short for CARBON :)

Has GEC used CAR to denote CARBON in the past or could this be leaving the door open for some SS in the exact same pattern? It's been 2 years! Be still my heart … LOL

Carbon, unfortunately as some have lamented, or fortunately, in the case that one doesn't know what patina is.

Tangent - I don't think we've seen the end of the tang stamp shuffle. "CKC" and "GEC CAR" are both kinda weak, whereas "Titusville Ironworks" was really nice and hard act to follow, but it will surely be bested yet, if not resurrected.

I don't think it's accurate to say GEC never makes the same knife twice. They do it on an almost yearly basis with the #71 Bull Nose. I feel like there are other examples, but that's the best one I can think of off the top of my head.

If I recall, the reason for the switch from the TIW (Titusville Iron Works) stamp was related to a trademark issue, so I doubt it'll be making a comeback. I don't love the CAR stamp (why not just stamp "1095" at that point?), but it's better than CKC, which I found a bit odd.

While it's true that GEC seems to TRY not to repeat the same knife twice (I agree with btb01 btb01 , "never" isn't accurate), what does a run of 500 Tidioute barlows have to do with an SFO of Boy's Knives with bails and chains?

So do we know what handle material Charlie’s Clip blade sfo will be yet?

texmex03 asked about an upcoming run of Charlie's Clip blade SFOs. cbr1000 replied Chestnut Peach Seed jigged bone. Am not referring to Boy's Knives with bails and chains. I assumed texmex03 was asking about the next TC Barlow Charlie clip blade sfo and it won't be peach seed jigged bone.

btb01 btb01 You are right, I'll edit never to "almost never".

Simple, all that has to be done is drill a hole for the bail. No re-tooling needed. They’ve essentially given each person a choice as to whether you want the bail and chain, or not. They just released a run of 15s with no bail and chain and now they’re getting ready to release a series with. Next release of TCs are muscadine right?

Charlie has an SFO of Boys Knives with bails and chains. It's the only such version that will have a clip point blade. But the handle materials were never announced. GEC could certainly do a run of #15 barlows in chestnut peachseed jigging and do a run of #15 Boy's Knives with bails in chestnut peachseed jigging (if that is accurate) and certainly not be repeating the "same knife."

This is my only #15. In fact, it is my only GEC so far. The fit and finish and walk and talk are practically perfect. The blade seemed a bit too sharp out of the box, and as I suspected, it had a wire edge. However, a few minutes on the sharpener fixed that.
