Show us your Randalls

Jeebus Forrest, that's a pretty knife! I was working on placing orders for 2012 with three authorized RMK dealers tonight and kept running into the current five option limit...

My first Randall -- a 6 option #3-6": stainless blade, factory stag, finger grips, NS hilt, NS butt plate, alum/black spacers. Received from the factory last year.

Now that one is droolworthy!

OK, here are some I picked up in the last few months - most are reposts...

I included the five knife matched set that just sold, as they may not be seen again for a long while...

I bought a few back too, ending up with a couple of new Triathletes in the process...

There were a few others not photographed yet...

Enjoy

Congrats on selling the set. Somebody is getting one heck of a collection.

Hi guys. I don't collect Randalls and this is the first one I have ever had. Just fell into my hands. Looks very similar to a 3-6 shown just above by LoneWolf. I'm wondering if any of you can date it.
Also have a question about the handle; is this what Randall calls a 'crown stag'? Has the nickel silver cap on the butt. three black spacers and two nickel silver ones. Guard appears to be nickel silver.

Back of sheath is stamped 3 6. Randall made knives, Orlando, Fla. Each snap has RANDALL MADE on it, with a knife in the middle.

Some beautiful knives shown in this thread. I can understand the attraction these things hold for you.

Thank you

Hi OldKnife,

You have a relatively new (gorgeous) Model 3-6. Sheldon can possibly narrow the timeframe. The "crown" is where the antler attaches to the deer or stag's head. Here are a couple of examples:

Here's a few butt angles to give you a better idea of where the "crown" term came from:

Best,

OK007's knife was made during, or after, 1995 and now (based on the sheath snap type) - depending on how long he's owned it would help narrow that down a bit. And, being that we all know that new(er) knives, especially if shiny and unused, are worth soooo much more than older, used versions - well, out of the kindness of my heart, and the fact that I'm such a nice guy, I'm willing to make Ron a limited, one time offer to trade two of his old knives for one of my newer versions...

Wait, sorry, wrong sub-forum...drats! ;)

In all seriousness (long day) - OK007, that's a really nice Randall you have; and Ron, as always, thanks for reminding me why we collect... :)

Thank you, gentlemen. I purchased the knife last week, from an estate sale. I have no other information on it. It was a bargain. Thanks for the info on crown stag, I mostly collect old pocket knives. I thought this Randall of mine was crown stag with the very end cut off and the nickel silver plate added (what a great touch!).
I appreciate the info.

And more - two new arrivals, and a very minty early 1970's Separate S #18-7.5 'Attack-Survival' model... :D

Shel, I thought the separate "S" models had the "S" further away from the trademark or down by the choil. Yours looks like the "S" was just stamped a little further than normal. Plus, wasn't the "S" stamped separately from the logo which explains the spacing. I could be wrong, but I thought there was a thread on the "other" website detailing separate S's giving this as an explanation.

Dan, nope, hard to tell in this photo, but it's definitely individually stamped and offset from the RMK logo. Separate S Model #18's with screw-in end cap handles are fairly rare, only made for about a year or so as this was the transition period to both the Integral S stamp and this handle type. The knives with the S stamped near the choil are commonly referred to as Low S knives...

Shel, thanks for the clarification. That's the problem with pictures, they don't always show all the details that you can see with the knife in hand. Still a very nice knife. I've got one that's a little newer than yours but with a carbon blade and no compass in the butt cap.

New knife for the stable - Non-catalog Fireman's Special, stainless steel blade, nickel-silver hilt, brownish/green 'Border Patrol' shaped Micarta handle, and standard brown leather high-ride sheath - uber cool! :D

:thumbup:Very nice, that one! Always liked the Fireman. The grip really is more of a brown though, isn't it?

It was sold as brown Micarta, and it's definitely Micarta that's brown colored - but I think it's probably RMK shop supplied green Micarta that either changed color with time, due to heat during the handle shaping process, or both. Still, there is no green to be seen... :D
