November booty - something old, something new, something traded, nothing to rue... :D

Something old.jpg

I purchased a Model 15 from Aberchrombie and Fitch in New York City in the summer of 1968 while they were actually still somewhat of an "outfitter".
I was a assigned to II Field Force Vietnam as a 23 year old 2LT. I ended up with the Royal Thai Army Black Panther Infantry Division Liaison Section at Bearcat. I carried the Randall every day. One day I did not and returned to my hooch to find it and other of my stuff stolen courtesy, I am sure, of one of our Vietnamese allies. Bad day.
Anyway, I have wondered if the thief appreciated what he had or used it to dig in his garden. Maybe his children or grandchildren have in this digital age, sold it on ebay : )
My salute to Randall; they did and still do make a great knife. It was a special thing to have owned it. Thanks for the great photos that bring back many memories.

LT, that's a sad story - a good one, yet sad.

Dan, nope, it's a #12-6 LBB...I now have five of 'em now, but really only want to keep this one...

Welcome home, Brother! Hold on to those memories..........

Best,

Thanks guys! A pleasure to be here. I am in process of replacing the model 15....but it may be with a new model 18. This site and you guys are a real inspiration. Great info and pics. Peace.
Jim

Mack, sure thing, right after I stop being too lazy to photograph knives for my website... :D

Nope - you wanna come shoot the photos? Maybe update my website while you're at it? I'd like to get my dinner table back sometime this year... :D

Edited to add: I've been shooting 20 to 30 photos of each RMK for a project I'm working on; that many because of my crappy photography skills and set-up (mini camera and natural lighting) and in the process ended up with close to a thousand photos to wade through, correct, and enhance. It's become mind numbing and makes me nausous to even think about. When back at BRK&T for the October Grind-in I spoke w/their photographer Crystal about her nice camera work - when she told me she only took one photo of each knife, I almost cried. Overwhelmed, I've put off taking any more photos until I get this mess cleaned up. I'll look into getting some lights tomorrow.

No shame in that fierce collection, nice!

Found these today while looking for something else...

The Old Yellow Micarta #12-6 LBB is for you Mack - that makes four I know the whereabouts of. I'll take a pic of all five when I stumble across the other one. The maroon Micarta #1-5 shown here is a pretty sporty 'lil guy from the mid to late 1980's...very quick and well balanced in the hand. The other pic is yesterday's haul...
