On second inspection......I think you are correct Melvin......I think it was just tarnished/dirty and slightly yellow, but definately not brass yellow.

The older NS was silver colored - the newest is greenish yellow...

I just noticed that my model 8 does not have a sharpend top section. The catalog lists the first couple inches as being sharpened. Mine is thin, but definately not sharpened. Do you think it was an option or request from the original order, or an overlooked thing?

It could have had to do with where the person that originally ordered it lived. It may have been illegal to have it sharpened that way in their state, and so they requested it not sharpened. I don't know for certain, but I don't think that would count as an option.

Thanks Motey, I plan on using/carrying it and was just wondering if it would detract by sharpening it.

Shel, do you think they sheath with the model 1 is VN era or older? Trying to solve the mystery of why this sheath is with this knife.

No, it's a Sullivan's sheath made from the late 1980's through 1994. The spacer stack on the knife itself has been in use since 1984. It is not a Vietnam era knife. Sorry...

That said, sheaths do get worn out or lost over time, so older knives with newer sheaths are not that uncommon, albeit less desireable to many collectors. Still, the spacers installed when the knife is finished (built), give the approximate 'period' of manufacture.

Use it, it looks ready. :)

It's the smaller, 4" version of the Non-Catalog 'Gambler' made from 3/16" stainless steel - the larger version is 5" long, made from 1/4" steel. They are very different knives. What I like about this one, other than the options and nice stag, is that the blade profile top to bottom is thinner than most. It's pretty darn cool IMO. :)

Not sure what year it's from, maybe someone more knowledgeable can help? Nordic Knives #518. 7" blade.

Sweet, your collection is growing nicely! I'd say call Dave Harvey at Nordic Knives 1-800-992-6574 he would know...man, good looking knife!

Thanks Shel. I managed to hold onto that holster for you. PM me your address and I'll ship it to you.

That is some great stag on that Nordic Special and some really unusual options. I don't think I've seen one with a scalloped skull crusher but cap or the double lug hilt, and that stag is real knarly looking!
