Show Your Buck 501's

The Esquire (prior name of the Squire) was one of my first knives. A gift from my father while I had the chicken pox. I lost that knife playing football, I think. Still bothers me, I loved that knife. The best I could do was replace it which I finally did in 1991, + date code. More recently, thanks to the invention of the internet and auction sites, I was able to purchase this more period correct model (to the one I lost) and with all the fixings too... Not the original, but close enough to make me happy.

The 501 is such a classy looking knife. I don't know what it is, maybe the size/proportions, but its definitely classy.
I agree, a classy looking knife. I think it's the subtle curves and the sleek drop point blade.

I like knives with 4 inch handles, this is close at 3 7/8. It fits my hand nice and just feels good. Also, the locking blade adds a little safety as a user. I can find no real downside with the 501 Squire. I carry one every day.

...! I pair it with an equestrian knife hoof pick (wish Buck made one) to get the last crevices along the spine clean. Then, it's grillin' time.
That sounds like a convenient idea, but..I am by no means squeamish, almost regardless of what i use my knife for i do a quick wipe off on my pants and its ready to slice up my food.
But i really dont care for the idea of having the tool used to pick crap out of a horse hoof next to the blade i might us to eat with. Put a dedicated pick on the saddle and it will always be there. Oh and Buck does or did make one, actually i think there were a couple models.

I think he meant thats what it was designed for but he uses it for another purpose....not both. LoL

Yeah, I don't own a horse. I have found many uses for a hoof pick though! Cleaning the mud off my boots, reaching cases of beer in the center of my truck bed, opening door handles covered in COVID-19 virus and yes, removing poop from my fish before I cook it. I'll be interested to know the models Buck has or had available.
