Show Your Buck 501's

The 501 is an excellent Trout knife! I pair it with an equestrian knife hoof pick (wish Buck made one) to get the last crevices along the spine clean. Then, it's grillin' time.

Buck did make a hoof pick blade in a Crosslock.

Today's carry a custom shop 501 in oak with a S30V blade.

When I see oak on Bucks site I always assume it won't look good. I used to do hardwood floors for a living and I guess I think about the wood when its dry. Although some of it is attractive when dry it doesn't all look great. Of course its beautiful when finished though.
But most of the time I see it, someone posts one, they look great.
You got one with some cool grain. Co congratulations.

Wonderful collections, guys. I bought my first around 1979 (I'd just started a new job) and carried it for 21 years before I put it away and replaced it with a new one around 2000 (based on the date code). I bought a third one a few years later to keep in my camping van. The original, with those burgundy Micarta scales holds lots of memories, mostly as a knife I used on many picnics and outings with my, then, young wife.

Sorry I don't have photos of them but they are all rather ordinary looking, standard models. I finally moved away from them as EDC knives when I learned about the Mini-Griptilian (a more useful knife for my needs but none of the *soul* of the 501.

Boxer, oak can be a lot of things. These are oak. Post Oak specifically. A 501 and 113. Usually flooring is chosen for strait grain but there are parts of trees that have figure.

and for a little better picture, a 110 in oak...

Thanks for posting this. I’ve had my eye on precisely that knife for a while, now, but I’ve wanted to see a better picture than the custom knife shop shows. A great looking knife. I only wish modern 501’s had stainless bolsters like my ‘77. Still, I may treat myself to one for my birthday.

If you watch the big auction site you can occasionally get one of these micarta/script 501s in excellent condition for a good price. Sometimes sellers think they are selling a jeweled masterpiece, but if you are patient a good deal will come along.

Yeah, I love that old Micarta. I find that the blades are often short though and that bugs me a bit. Patience....

Well if you can't wait for a bargain 501...Consider the 484! Pocket clip, if you want it or a nice hole for a cord if you like that. It's knocking my 112 Slim Pro out of rotation...some days.

Yeah, after looking for several months, I sniped an old script 501 in pristine condition in the box with (sadly dry rotted) sheath and all paperwork at a very reasonable price.
