Even worse. All my relatives worked in tool and cutlery factories most of their lives. My grandmother knew some one who worked somewhere they did EPNS, and in the early 70's decided to get all sorts of things plated, including the carbon-steel stag-handled carving set and my grandfather's old pewter tankard!

some real lookers in this thread.

I'm not sure this is an appropriate blade for this thread, but here is a forced patina on my Condor Speed Machete ( apple cider vinegar and deli mustard )

My old #85 Coco since departed...but replaced with a new #85 Coco which is just starting it's way towards a patina.

all patinas in this post were earned....

Here's my first attempt ever doing a forced patina on a #47 Viper from the timberweasel GAW that I recently won, using some vinegar and lemon juice....

All these patina'd implements are just stunning. I've never cared for ebony until I saw Rick's 72 - that's a looker for sure! And I just about fell over when I saw wackafew's Kinfolks - that one just evokes a ton of great images!

Finally got around to taking a few shots to play too. These are some of my favorites, forced with a mix of yellow mustard, ferric chloride and a little paste gun blue.

One of the few natural patina's on the 72 spear, above another forced.

And a couple cigar whittlers (ignore the damascus!).

gets inducted into the Order of the Patina Patina for the sheer volume of forced patina knives. Congrats mustard man...

This one is completely earned. Perhaps 80-90 years worth.

kamagong is our newest inductee in the Order of the Patina Patina for this fine example of a well cared for, nearly a century old, cutting tools with natural patina. Congrats:thumbup:

These 35 year old blades I always wanted to keep clean but failed to do so. It is what it is.

Not forced. Natural. Nearly black now. Even the springs.
