Signalprick/JWRitchie Knives Slipjoint Recovers, Mods and WIPS

Hey there Nick! How you been buddy? I would hardly say I'm a big deal, lol. Just another guy trying my hand at the knife making game. Thanks for the kind words! :)

All good here man. I am at CPF everyday but I come here in waves it seems. I'll hang for a bit then drift off a couple months then come back around. Yeah your mods here in this thread are fantastic! I will have to watch to see what you have come up for sale, haha. I am mostly into midtech ti framelocks and OTFs, and Spydies, but lately I have had the desire for an old timey knife to play around with so I have been cruising the traditional sub here. Just picked up a lime green bone Case Sodbuster, so that is kinda fun. I will definitely be following your work here; keep up the cool projects!

The 3rd of 3 is complete! This #15 spear is recovered in a really beautiful Westinghouse natural crosscut linen with pinned shield. Frame pins are 410 SS and pivot/bolster pin is 303 SS. I've done the pivots on these mild steel bolster GEC's both ways now, using either a nail sanded down to size or 303 stainless and I prefer the 303. It's a better fit and seal once peened. Yea, the mild steel nail blends better but the end result is trash for the long haul unless you can get it sanded perfectly to size like the 303 pin is already made. Also, I was given this micarta a while back. I thought it was just some junk stuff but after fitting up the mark side cover I noticed the black line. I contacted the gentleman who gave it to me and he told me its Westinghouse black line linen crosscut. Unfortunately this one piece was the only one I had with the line, instead of scrapping it I just went with it. I feel it adds character and a uniqueness to the knife. Anyway, thanks for looking!

Since you take apart so many knives, do you have any thoughts on this question: what would you say are the older USA made traditional brands that you are likely to find in a bucket at a flea market for a couple bucks, but actually have pretty good quality guts and are worth tinkering with?

I finished up the #23. Deleted the spey blade and recovered the main knife in a blue jigged bone with pinned houndstooth shield. I made a keychain fob out of the original shield. I also turned the spey into a lightweight covered in black canvas micarta with red g10 liners and a redheart wood oval shield. I really, really like the lightweight. Such a great blade shape! Thanks for looking!
